So my wrist starts to hurt on those clip on bars, so i decided to make it straight. is here anyone who have done it? Whats the easiest way to do it, was thinking about to bend the bars straight, which might not be a good idea since the metal might break, another plan is to drill holes for handlebar brackets.

Best way is to trade your top yoke with someone who has the handlebar style top yoke.

There's no short demand for them stateside since the only year which had them was 1989 here.  You might even be able to find someone who will add money on top of the trade.

now i feel bad..... i have thrown away so many sets of yokes with clip on style bars.... i buy crashed bikes and part them out (in south africa) and the hardest thing to sell is the clip on style bars

Yep, just swap the top yolk.

Also consider the lid of the brake fluid reservoir will now be angled and prone to leakage and that the control cables may now be too long/short.

Those high rise clipon bars aren't the most ergonomic, I would rather have the tube bars of the US spec 90 and later. Those short risers of the US 89 are absolute gold. Those are what I modeled my bars back in 2003 and 04 on. Near identical position with an extra 1/2" on both sides to keep the brake banjo from hitting the dash when you fiddled with them.

Thanks for the answers, cant find any yokes with risers in EU, seems only to be in the us, guess it won't be too hard to drill holes for risers and put a bar on it. Should be higher resale price aswell

I was just reading addidasguy's post about handlebars and noticed he had a clock on his head stock bolt.
Anyone know how he mounted that? Is there a special clock you can buy?
I want to put a thermometer somewhere so I can tell when it's below freezing in Winter.
And I also want to mount my waterproof phone pouch. It's currently hanging off a mirror stem.
I have the Euro clipons and there is no room to mount anything else to them which is why I wanted to get the American bar type but now I'm realising, you seem to be able to use the two mounting holes in the middle of the yoke to install some risers and I could clamp a small tube between them to attach stuff to instead of getting a whole new handlebar.

All ya do is type something into eBay like "motorcycle 7/8 clock thermometer" or a similar combination of those words. The 7/8 is to specifically search for ones that will fit the GS's handlebars.

I have regular "American" style bars on my bike and I've always wanted to try clip-ons... but the bars I have are soooo comfortable so I never messed with it. I'd be interested to see ya make a custom middle bar! I think it's a cool idea for sure.

Thanks for those links wolf. I guess Addidasguy got one of those to fit onto the headstock bolt.
I put the picture of his in the previous post.

I should take a pic of my phone mount. Also bought a nice one with a magnet that just slaps on the tank.
Got it off alibaba but I can't find it now on their site.
Very handy and I have my motobatt battery set-up  where I can charge my phone while riding.
If I can find out I can definitely put risers on to where those middle holes are, I will try putting a mini bar in.

Oooooh, okay, I didn't know that's the bike you were referring to. Adidasguy had multiple (very beautiful) bikes.

That kind of clock will turn up if you search for "stem mount motorcycle clock" or "stem bolt motorcycle clock" etc.

That's actually not a bad idea, and it'll give you plenty of room for stuff if you made the bar a little wider than the clamps.  Probably could get a phone, GPS, and a clock/thermometer all on it.

I'm going to get some risers and stick a tube in there as long as the distance from riser to riser (probably by a single clip-on) so I can attach stuff to it.

Got a 22mm with M10 bolt Risers, its just a few mm over the front suspension knobs, so got pretty lucky there

Nice one .... just did the same thing on my 1989 gs . I took the route of getting a used yoke replete with bat clamps and then added a riser to cler the preload adjusters on the forks  and its transformed the comfort of the bike ...
