1991 GS500 Throttle cable problem

After moving from the US i bought another GS 500 here in Europe. Thing is, it has some mods to it. Most are fine but the thing that is causing me trouble is the throttle. It has a Barracuda throttle on it which leads to the carbs. However, there is only one throttle cable at the carbs. This causes the throttle grip to snap back, but it doesn't stay. In fact, I can push it forward and it will open the throttle in too! Now, I don't know whether the older GS 500s had only one cable. If they did, then I suspect that the throttle is a 1/4 turn, but I don't remember how a stock one felt. If there were originally two cables, then I don't see another point to attach the other cable at the carbs. Would replacing the throttle grip and insides fix this, potentially? Or do you guys have any other things to check first? Thanks in advance!

Both of my 90s GSs had single cable throttles.

No throttle should open when twisting the grip forwards, that is whacky.

I'd suspect new throttle tube would fix, chances are something inside is broken or missing.

The early ones did have a single cable setup.

I think the most obvious answer is to get a good used OEM replacement from ebay or a breaker.

You won't have to look hard, plenty of them around, £25 tops.
