New Paint!

I had a pretty nasty dent in the tank on the left side from the previous owner laying the bike down. I bondo'd that and gave her a nice new paint job since the original paint was in rough shape (It was originally a black and grey GS500F). It turned out pretty good!

Got any pictures of the profile?

Looks good from that angle but it's still rather hard to see.

I like it, what kinda paint did you use, and howd you do it? been thinking about painting the rear cowl and maybe the gas tank on mine. thanks

nice! what year is it?

Here's the side profile  :) The paint's still a little soft so I need to wait a few more days before doing some fine sanding and polishing, and adding my new tank emblems and a tank pad

I used Rust-Oleum Metallic Blue. I had to sand the dented part to bare metal to apply the Bondo to fill the dent, but everything else I scuffed up with some 800 grit so the paint could grab. Used some filler primer to fill in all the little scratches and such that were on the tank, then applied base coat, then clear coat (Did this all with everything off the bike, of course!)

It's a 2006. I bought it after it sat for about 4 years and it was in pretty rough shape (bent sub frame, big dent in tank, scratched paint, didn't run), but I'm slowly bringing it back into shape!

Thanks! The headlight is awesome, especially at night! My only issue is it flickers a little at idle and even more when idling with the turn signal on. But it's still not bad enough where it really bothers me.

Have you switched bulbs over to LED bulbs? Especially the tail light bulbs. Swapping them out might help with the flickering.

is it gas resistant paint? painted my tank black, but spilled some gas and it melted straight away

The only LEDs are the gauge lights, the "dash" lights (not sure what they're called), and the headlight. I will try getting some LEDs for the brake light and turn signals and see if that helps

No, it's just normal spray paint. I will try not to spill gas on it, then!  :icon_lol:

Just get a proper clear coat.
