While doing a simple oil top off this morning I forgot I had my ignition / seat key in the seat release key lock and bumped into it. I took it out without breaking it off inside the lock. The key was bent slightly so I tried to bend it back and ended up breaking it into two.

My question is can a key place fix the key by cutting a new one or am I going to have to replace the ignition  ( which I'm finding out is hard to do ) and seat lock?

It would be difficult so it actually might be hard to find someone willing to try.  I would try a reputable locksmith and take the seat lock with you to try at their shop as soon as the key is cut.

If by some chance, you have the key code tag that came with the bike when new, a dealership can cut a key without an existing key.

Worst case, get some Sculpey putty and Cerrosafe metal.  Make a mold of the key, bake the mold, melt the metal into the mold.  The resulting key can be used to cut a duplicate key after testing to ensure the key will turn in the lock.

I replaced my ignition .. it was simple enough . There are cheap switches from china that look the same and work very well , took about 30 minutes to do including  soldering the wireing in  so its no drama if you do need to get a new switch ... best wishes

I can't see your image , but if you use [img width=500]URL[/img] tags then you can include the image within your post.

On topic, I only received one key with my bike so got another one cut a few months ago.

You can buy key blanks on eBay or from Suzuki dealers etc (part 3714626D10 pre-2002, 3714633E00 2003+). Then take this to a locksmith and they'll be able to cut it for you.

Depending on how bent the key is, you could make their life easier by hammering them flat or heating and bending them, then joining them back together by soldering/brazing it. They might even be willing to do this for you for a little extra cost.

It's routine job for a locksmith just to make a new key for it. They need something to work from obviously, -take the fuel tank in and they can work from the fuelcap lock.

I took a look at a friends duplicator today and found I am mistaken.  Any key cutting place should be able to cut a duplicate provided the blank is available.

The problem is hardware stores typically don't have the blanks and won't cut a key on your own blank.  Locksmiths can order a blank as they probably won't have a blank on hand.  They may or may not be faster than a dealership but sometimes dealerships have blanks on hand.  However, dealerships might not have a duplicator.

I would check if a dealer has a blank and if not, just go to a locksmith.  Try calling around, some may have the right blank on hand.

When I got a key cut, I just walked into a common key cutter's. They had the blank. I think it's fairly generic.
