OK I am getting a new head for the eli 9... would my camshafts work in it... he has cams that have some serious mods... its meant for a concourse, and has many mods done to it.... but the 900 and concourse had the same head. Do cams and head wear together.
Thanks.
Srinath.

If the camshaft is for either head then you shouldn,t have a problem as long as the clearances are ok. No different I suppose than switching cams in say a small-block chevy or something of the like. Just ensure that the cam journal to bearing clearances are ok, the camshaft itself has no major flaws and I think you'd be good to go. BTW if the cam lobes operate against rocker arms then it would be best to use the rockers that go with each lobe. Oh, Srinath how I love the little GS500 and this forum.

OK back to the topic... its the same head, but the concours has different cams, and the duuude has some more radical cams, which will work on concourse, but not on the eli 9... maybe on the 10, so I could take that head use it on the 10, and use the 10's head on the 9 cos they all had the same head... 86-2005 concourse, ninja 9 - 10 85-87, eli 9-10 85-87, but the eli 1000 had 10.2:1 compression while the 9 had 11:1, and the piston deck heights will be less on a 9 than a 10 or concours. But my rockers are rusty... some surface rust, My cams are better and the head I am getting will be the best I think... anyway they heads on a concourse will take a 900 eli's cams just fine.
Cool.

dgyver

There is not a problem switching cams to another head. As long as they are still within spec when installed.
Common sense in not very common.
