Do these go bad without getting holes in them?

The slide action on my GS is quite rapid, compared to an SV carb with new diaphagms (yes not like for like i know) which has a smooth action the GS ones are very abrupt. Not so abrupt as if there was no sealing at all (say installing the caps with the diaphram bundled into it instead of the groves in the carb body) but a little too quick.

Blipping the throttle quickly doesn't have a lot of affect on the GS and i'm trying to trace that. I'm assuming the slides aren't reacting correctly and the engine is pulling too much air. Changing the throttle position slowly is fine.

They are easy to remove from the slides - wondered if they leak from the center section?

GS slides move up rather fast, known problem, we sometimes put a stopper in the holes in the bottom, in fact we block 1 hole and restrict 1 hole.
If the diaphragm has a hole, it will not rise at all.
