Bike won't run unless choked

I picked up a 2001 gs 500 recently, the tank was pretty well rusted and as a result the bike was having trouble running/ starting. I've since cleaned out the tank and cleaned my carbs.

I've got the bike back together now and it starts right up and idles well, but will only run with the choke all the way on. After letting the bike warm up, if I begin to roll the choke back the bike dies immediately. I pulled the carbs back out and as far as I can tell every things in order and they're clean and clear. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

The boots are on tight and still in good shape as far as I can tell.

well, spray some starter fluid or brake cleaner in the carb area, intake boots.. the sync caps on the top of carb..  to check for any leaks, if not then theres something wrong inside the carbs. Are the carbs syncced? are the both cyls running? I have a prob every year after winter when i start up it first time the right cyl doesnt fire up, sounds like it is but aswell as your problem i have to have full choke so it runs 'well' and dies when i drop it down
