Carburetors rebuild kit compatibility

Hello guys,

I'm planning to rebuild the carbs on GS500F 2004 using this:

It's the most common on aliexpress and much cheaper option than 2004+ rebuild kit off ebay. I'm not sure what were the major changes between GS500E and GS500F carburetors and if the inner parts like the jets and needles are the same as the old model.
Can anyone confirm that this parts fit the newer generation of carburetors?

That looks like a kit for a '98-00 bike. It won't work for the '01+. Completely different carbs.

Also if you get a rebuild kit like this for your later carbs, you probably don't want to use things like the needles and emulsion tubes etc. Just float needles & seats, all o-rings, bowl gasket, and replace the stuff like drain screws if your originals are damaged or corroded. IOW, this kit has way more parts in it than you need.

I also have a 2004 model GS500F and ordered a carb kit from Taiwan. It is really good quality, but it seems to be out of stock atm.

Anyway, the gasket shape that you should be looking for looks like this.

The gasket looks totally different. I've rebuild the float needle last year using similar set. It looks like I'll have to find another one for the jets and needles.

The bike starts instantly and idles just fine but I find it hard to pull after 6-7k rpm. Reaching the red line the seems like forever. Fuel economy under 5k rpm is okay (3.5l/100km to 4l/100km with pillion and luggage). If I keep the throttle open and cruise at 6-7k rpm the fuel consumption is drastically increased like 6.5 to 8L per 100km, I'm not sure if this is okay. The air filter and the exhaust are stock and the bike doesn't burn oil at all.

Waiting a friend of mine to come back from vacation to check the engine pressure. If pressure on both cylinders are in spec I'll try my luck with rebuilding the carbs.

That is an 89-00 kit. Wont work for 04.
If your bike runs to 5-6k just fine, a rebuild kit wont help, you need a diagnosis and trouble shoot.
And first question, air filter clean ? - Not carb air filter.
2nd - you have fuel flow that's 100% ? - Not carb, petcock.
You have a good set of diaphragms ? Yes this is carb.

The air filter is almost new, I did service before I went on a trip for around 2k kms, also changed the wheel bearings, fork oil and seals, brake pads, brake fluid, sparkplugs and new tires. I'm not sure how to diagnose fuel flow?

Hopefully I'll manage to check on the diaphragms next week and let you know the results.

"Carb rebuilds" are usually done in the wrong situation by clueless mechs who want to charge $$ doing useless crap.

First off I think the term is misleading. You're replacing O rings and some rubber and metal parts most of which dont wear.
Rubber deteriorates, and lets air or fuel past when its supposed to stop it, so that part makes sense - if the parts you remove are bad.

Metal parts dont wear unless ridden in horribly dusty conditions without an air filter or something, and when they do wear, the wear in the slides and guides are far far worse, something these "kits" dont have.

Main jet, pilot jet, needle, float seat, air screw drain screw all that other nonsense is a waste. We replace mains and pilots with 1 size larger, cos the stock size is too lean, why the F would we replace that with a new one of the same. The O ring on the float seat can go bad but the seat itself ???

Anyway, O rings, there's 4 that are pretty important, they get lost or crack and it will be bad, but O rings are available by size at autoparts stores.
The one item that will warrant buying this "kit" and cheaper in "kit" than by itself at dealer - Float gasket. If that's bad then you're better off getting this kit just for that.

Now to your problem, you should check if your frame petcock is leaking into the vacuum line. Even a tiny leak can cause several problems like this and as it gets worse it will be terrible at all stages of running.
