Generator rotor, flywheel compatibility

Hello,

It's my first time here. I rebuilt my GS 500 E engine from 1989 recently, it was my first time ! Unfortunately the magnets on the flywhell / generator rotor broke off. I tried to glue them back with epoxy. But 20km after restart, it broke off once again but this time it broke in pieces and blocked the engine.

So here I am searching the web for rotors but, the ones for any GS 500 are all around 400€ :/
I found a rotor with broken magnets, is it a good idea to try to glue them back (the right way this time ...) ?
If i understood correctly, the GS 450 3 magnets' rotor works is that right ? Is this a kind of "plug and play" solution ?
Also i found all other GS flywheel at a reasonable price, is the GS 400 flywheel okay ? GS 850 ? GS 550 E ?
I cannot find any informations on diameter or on the magnets thickness.
Has anyone already tried swapping another model rotor ? Do you have any ideas ?

Cheers from France

Welcome,

I recommend you check the stator for deformations once you open the cover as if the magnets fallen, there good chance that they come in contact with the stator windings. Also the oil pan may have leftovers of the magneto. I would also make sure that magneto cover its not bent as as it may break the rotor.
I'm using 31402-45020 rotor with 3 magnets from GS400 on my GS500F which was originally with 6 magnets, 10k kms so far without any problems.

Search for GS400, GS450, GS550 and GS750 as this should fit GS500 as well.

Cheers.

Some places repair them, i sent mine and it came back balanced  with a metal strip in the inside and epoxy filled. new magnets also.
