So I went to go work on my bike yesterday, but every time I looked at it the crushed tank made me want to cry. Soooo... I painted it with blue & silver tremclad, to make it look less ugly until my new tank arrives (who knows how long that's going to be, it's coming from the UK to Canada).

I see your engine case is scratched up.  You can polish them up ... that's what I did.  I used electrical tape to mask around the perimeter of the round part so that I could just polish the area around the badge.  Just used a wire wheel to get the paint off and then sand to 400 grit and then polish on a polishing wheel with aluminum polish.  The electrical tape held up well and created a defined line between painted and polished area.

Here is the finished cover.  My timing cover came out a bit better.  I only used 280 grit on the alternator cover.

Yes, that's what it is! It's a rust resistant, anit-corrosive paint for metal... really good stuff, and cheap - about $3 Canadian for a small can. I didn't know it was Canadian, but now that I try to look it up online it seems that it is.

Tremclad is a household name around here, sorry!  

Must be similar to Rust-Oleum in the US.
