ive got a 2000 gs500e, with 1200 miles on it....im fairly new to bikes, but have been around cars for a little while...

most of the time, the bike is fine...but every once in a while (mostly when the bike is warm) i will roll off the throttle, pull in the clutch and brake, and the rpms do not drop down to idle right away....it "hangs" around 3000 rpm, and if i let the clutch out slowly (rock the bike), the rpms will then drop to idle...

im guessing its not any of the carb settings, since it doesnt do it all the time...

any ideas?

thanks in advance...

Sucking air... its a carb issue... but also can be manifold issue...

The factory carburetor settings are set kinda lean to pass emissions controls, which would kinda give you the idle hang. I suspect this because your idle does return with a little clutch, so I don't think you have an air leak around your intake boots, otherwise it would happen all the time.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
