Well, you heard it, i dropped my bike today  :( .  Was taking it off the center stand after cleaning the chain and i didnt put my foot on the stands foot peg to kick it my way :x .  ANGER was built.  When you guys said GS's are indestructable you wernt kidding.  Absoloutely no scratches or cracks on my fairing.  all i got was a little nic on the handlebar weight and a little nic on the transmission case cover.  FWEEW.  Anyone else do anything idiotic as this?

Oh yeah....

For future reference, I always hop on the bike to get it down off the centerstand.  "Cover" the front brake lever and rock the bike forward.  As it comes "over the hump" apply the front brake, and you'll have both wheels down without the bike moving forward much at all.

when i had my 250, i'd say atleast 5 times, maybe more, i dropped my bike cause i'd forget to take the lock off the front wheel, that makes you look real dumb when people are around, and trust me, when you do it, there's always people around,

as for my speed four, i dropped it once trying to put it up on the rear stand, an inch from my dad's harley :o
i've dropped it once becasue of the lock on the front wheel, and i dropped it once because it was in my friends slanted driveway, and it was leaning ok on the sidestand, but it was vertical enough, that the slight pressure from my pulling the bungee cord to the right side, pulled it over, and i had to ride home 35 minutes with no right footpeg.....

oh well, just laugh about it, cause getting mad isn't gonna do anything, the more scratched up adn dented it gets, the less you care about how it looks, and the harder you're willing to ride it, my friend's dropped his new zx6r twice, and both times he spent over $1000 to replace scratched parts, and wouldn't ride it in public until it was fixed, aobut two weeks each, so yeah, i'm pretty sure laughing it off is the way to go

Heh, that happened to me once, right as I was comming out of one of the biggest nightclubs in my city.  I even passed a group of ladies that were yelling things like "Oh, I bed you drive a crotch-rocket," and other things like that.  Lucky for me, I was parked behind some cars and out of sight from everyone when it happened 8).  That would have been sooo embarassing!  Haven't really used my wheel lock much since.

This is what i do to prevent the 0mph drops---> always park you bike in a position where you need to reverse the bike to ride off. (ie front tire facing the wall etc) Place the lock nearest to the fork. That way you cannot reverse the bike w/o taking off the lock.
It is not good enough to say that we are trying our best. We must succeed in doing what is necessary.

Don't use brake locks unless you need them... and if you do need to use one, PLS run a neon color bungee cord from the lock to the handlebar.  Another alternative: I run a Xena disc lock that chirps at 120dB if the bike moves slightly, so I dont have this problem.

Or just remember like I do  :P

LOTS of security is a must, or the bike will be off....

Thanks for the tip, kyzee, but the real reason I don't use it anymore isn't cause i forget it (that only happened once).  I just find it to be a hassle and with the steering lock, someone would have to go to a lot of trouble to steal my little 500cc bike anyway.

And here I was two days ago feeling like I was the only person who had dropped their bike off the centerstand.

I now realize my mistake was the lock - knew I forgot something.  At least I (hopefully) won't do it again!

Of course, you could always do what I did the day my bike came home (my husband rode it home from the dealership for me, since I hadn't ridden in quite a while and was slightly giddy from my purchase experience).  It was on the centerstand and I was attempting to dredge my "getting the bike off the centerstand" technique up from my memory, and I *dinged my tank* with one of the rivets on my Levis!   :x   D'oh!  Ding dong.  Grrr.  Note to self:  simma dahn nah!  Stay away from the tank!

And shortly after that my motion memory surfaced and I was able to get it off the centerstand like a champ.  So less than a half hour of ownership and it had its first blemish.

If anyone asks, I'll tell them that it's where a bullet ricocheted off my tank while I was speeding away from a bank heist.

drops happen.
i was wrestling mine up onto my bike jack the other day and had forgotten that the V&H pipe sits a little differently than the stock so i had the bike about a foot of the ground and was trying to reach a piece of 3/4 plywood to slip under the other side so the bike would sit squarely on the jack and lost it.  That's twice in two months.  THe last time was because my garage had too much shaZam! in it and i had to stand on the left side of the bike and lost my balance.  The GS is nimble, but it still weighs almost 400 pounds.

not to make you worry, but i can pick the rear end of heathers gs off the ground, and i only weigh 135 pounds, all it would take is too highschool football players and your bike would be in a truck before you knew what happened,

the only reason i don't bother with a neon cord to the grip, is because i know how people like to play with stuff, so i figure if i put the cord on the grip, someone's gonna pull it off someday, so when i put the lock on, i just make sure it's as close to the brake disk, and sometimes just roll my bike forward until the lock hits the brake, then there's no way it can go anywhere, and i have a clip on my keyring with my house key and disk lock key, anytime i put the lock on, i hook it on that clip, that way i remember, because i have to take the key off my bike key to use my bike, and i've just gotten used to it, since i ride my bike to work and school every day, it gets the lock on it all the time

and the only problem with the idea about pulling the bike up to a curb or anything like that, is when i park in a parking spot, i put it facing out of the spot, and right at the end of it, because that makes it the most visable to cars, i've seen plenty of people whip around into a parking spot, only to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting a bike that's parked way back in the corner of the spot, inbetween two giant SUV's with tinted windows, i'd rather my small black bike have it's own parking space instead of having to share it with a car
