what type of motorcycle insurance policies does everybody have? i'm thinking of just getting liability and uninsured/underinsured motorist.  not sure if i should get comprehensive and collision....... :dunno:

scratch

Progressive.

Also, do a search, you'll find all your answers.

I'm currently paying $75/yr for liability only. I have found, on Progressive's website, that I can have full coverage + uninsured for $244/yr. I'm 36.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Ditto.
If you have good health insurance, you don't really need Under or Non insured motorist coverage, unless of course your bike is worth $$$$.  Otherwise it's not that great an expense for the added piece of mind.

Progressive was the way to go for me too.  $101.30 for the year for liability, or around $700 for full coverage because of the fairing replacement cost. I opted for liability only on my F.  I figure if I can go through a full year without dropping it, I've saved enough to cover the cost.

Being in San Diego, I would stay away from Geico. They reclassified our bikes as sport bikes and jacked up the rates, even just for liability. Try Farmers insurance. Cheapest one I found.
I love YOU goes to college.

Maybe try McGraw - $474/yr full coverage - I'm a brand new rider so next year it goes down 20%.

Alberta sucks when it comes to insurance.  The government is stepping in in October to start regulating it though... finally.  Anyway, I pay $1200/yr for seasonal insurance since I can only ride April-October or so.  And $1200 was the cheapest I could find, everyone else wanted over $1500  :x

Yeah, I hear ya.  Our insurance is a crown corporation and I would be paying over $1200 per year if it wasn't for the discount I get for having 5 merits on my liscence.  Sucks, don't it?

Oh man....i really feel for you guys.  :(
It is not good enough to say that we are trying our best. We must succeed in doing what is necessary.

Hey stefman, good to see another winnipegger!  Here's the breakdown:

Basic - $862
Third party - $15
Comprehensive - $121
Registration - $46
Total - $1,044

Without my merits I'd be paying $1,337  :o

I have a 1998 black GS, just bought in April.  I got my liscence just this year (at 35 - I'm an old fart) and cruise about as much as I can.  I live in Riverview, how about you?  That'd be great to meet up for a cruise.

State Farm, I pay for my 2 cars and bike $152 a month all have full coverage, the bike its self runs $23 a month for full coverage.

Yeah, I'm up for some cruisin on Sunday.  How bout you?

Steve-C

Just to make you guys feel better, my cousin out in Ireland has an old Honda C70 (sorta like a scooter but with a 70cc motor)

For what we call 3rd party only insurance...means he is covered for any damage he does to other peoples property, but not for anything he does to the bike, or if it gets stolen....he pays....

$2,400!

He would love something a bit better, like any 125 machine...but he just can't afford the insurance!

Makes me glad to live in the UK, $440 for 3rd party, fire and theft cover... :)

You people in Ireland, Canada and other "socialist" countries.  Now you know how your "free" healthcare and other "free" services are paid for.  you pay 10X what we do for insurance AND your tax rates are like 60-70%.  Ours is just the opposite (for now anyway) we pay low taxes and get to spend our money how WE want.

Steve-C

I agree on the tax rate, but working in the insurance industry, the reason cost's are so high is due to after effects from things like 9/11 and at least in Ireland and the UK, the spiraling amount of personal injury claims.

And the health service may be free....but it sucks!  As a kid I waited 2 1/2 years to have a knee problem investigated...a work colleague now went private and had it solved in 2 weeks....ahhh state run 'free' services ain't they great!
