Hey everyone,

Pulling apart my carbs since I have one cylinder that does not fire.

(I get spark, The intake valve is working, gotta be a clogged jet)

Well, I noticed something I'm not happy about, and the shop that worked on my bike last might be fixig my bike for me for free.

I took it in last summer for the K&N Air filter, and V&H Exhaust, along with a CARB-REJET

What size is the factory main jets?  134?

Strangely enough, my bike *WAS* running quite well beforehand.  hrm.

What would have been the amifications for putting about 300 miles on the bike in this condition?  Could I have burned a valve?

I'm never taking my bike to a shop again.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, jet sizes depend much on model year, region that it was made for (I have a manual and depending on the reginon, main jet sizes range from 122.5 to 135 IIRC).

For example, my 2000 (MJ 1999) was factory restricted and had 115 and 125 main jets (yes, one carb has a larger jet). To unrestrict it I was supposed to install 122.5 and 127.5 jets (and remove slider restrictions).

Mine is a 1996 if that helps.

I do not think it was a califirnia model.

Thanks for that info, danci!  I wouldn't mind having a scanned copy of the pages with that region-based jetting info.

spdracer, are you asking for the size of the jets as they came from the Suzuki factory?  Or the size of the main jets in a Factory-brand jet kit that may have been installed?

Your main jets should come stock at 130.0.  Mine is an '04 and has the same style carbs, just jetted yesterday.  Pilots should be 17.5, mids 60.0 and mains 130.0.  That's all stock sizes.  I've heard some have 127.5 mains stock though.

Hope that helps.

The 1989-2000 models only have two jets in the carbs: a pilot and a main.  The carb style changed with the 2001 model.

According to past posts from Srinath and others, the stock mains in the US were 122.5 for the pre '01 series, whereas "the rest of the world got 125s".

Also, the US bikes apparently came with 37 pilots, while "everybody else" got 40s.

So...  what you are saying is that with me having 134 mains
in a 1996 GS500e that was BONE STOCK before taking it to the shop is:

A.)  I got ripped off.

b.)  I got a rejet, maybe not as radical as other GS members (140, 145, 150)

If I understand right,  I think I got what might be called a stage one kit?

Make sense?

Thanks

OK This is gone on long enough...
OK 134 is not a Factory size, its not even a mikuni size... dammit its not even a keihein... its a Dynojet size... 134 is what DJ supplies, and that makes the bike a stage 3... essentially no air box, K&N lunch box pod or regular clamp on pod, and slip on ot full pipe. The needle is radically thinner than the original mikuni making it effectively richer. 1/4 throttle and up.
Stock US size is 122.5. The stock bike will run good with 125 mains and 40 pilots - like kerry said. anything more... and it will probably run OK for a couple jet sizes, but start performing worse and worse... 130+ and it will be just shitty.
If your bike is stock or very close to stock, Like UNI in air box and slip on pipe... DJ has a 118 main, which should work fine... I think. Too rich... riding 300 miles... no harm at all. this bike takes rich well, my eliminator will go crazy if I went that rich... but a GS is cool with that... sorta.
Cool.

srinath,

Thanks man.

As you can see in my sig, I have a full V&H System.  my K&N is inside of the air box.    Thanks for the clarification.

Now we can let thsi thread die. :-)  More important matters now that I know that the shop, did infact install a DynoJet jet kit like I had said to.
