Buying a used GS...the saga of an unlucky buyer

The three bikes I was interested in were all sold days before I could look at them. And one of them, I was going to buy for sure. Oh well, someone out there is riding my dream bike.

Perhaps, this is a blessing in disguise since all the bikes were pretty high in mileage (although this may be moot since GS'es appear to be pretty reliable) and gives me a chance to look at some other bikes.

I just hope there will be more bikes available in my area (New York) in the next few weeks.

Bug Jared,  I hear he may have a spare bike laying around...

Would you want a low mileage F model?
(low miles meaning under 1000...)
When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Torque is LBs-FT Damn it.
Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

I'm actually more interested in a 92-2000 model (E model, is it?) with up to 10k miles, and below $2500

You send me $$ for handlebars... why dont you wait till you actually get a GS... dont worry I'll make them again if I sell out before that. Winter is a lean period for my welder... the projects lean out, and he then gets tempted to do work for me...    Anyway... You also send me $45... no $$ for shipping  :dunno: ... send me ~10 for shipping... I'll hold on to your check, or send them back... your choice.
Cool.

Sorry!

I had no idea what I needed to send you; I just went with the 45 beans you stated in the other thread.

I will send you a check for ten dollars. If handlebars are still available, then I would like one, regardless. I will definately be getting a GS in a matter of weeks.

Sorry, again. Cheers.

Don't get something 14 years or you will spend more time fixing than riding.  Things deteriorate due to age as well as use.  I would not touch anything more than 8 years old.  Probably less.  I have a 2002 with 17,000 miles and if I was selling I bet I would not get 3,000.  Bikes take a beating in the re-sale market.  You are better getting something with 10,000 miles and 4 years old than 5,000 miles and 10 years old.
P.S.  Mine is not for sale.  I love this bike.  Nothing better to take into NYC.

Thanks for the advice!

How is riding in NYC, anyways? I work in the city, and the one thing I know for sure is that parking will no longer be a hassle. The pedestrians and traffic are another story though...
