is that legal (even if you don't care)? I thought that tail lights had to be red.

yes, the tail LIGHTS have to be red, but the cover can be clear, as long as the bulbs themselves are red. There are so many stores that you could buy red bulbs, or red LEDs. If i find a clear tail light cover, i would most likely go with LEDs. Look way cooler.

IMHO, after riding with quite a few friends who have clear tail light lens, I would never recommend getting one. Even in the pack of bikes it was hard to tell, in daylight, when a bike was slowing.  :o

Imagine cage drivers who pay even less attention! It's a rear-end waiting to happen.

At night, they are VERY bright, but if the majority of your riding is in the daytime, I would say to skip the clear tail light and go with the clear turn signals only.

Anyway, just my opinion!  :)

its true, i never thought about that one. My bike is my night time toy, as i work the day shift everyday for the rest of my life, i only take her out at night. Ill probably buy it, but just switch the lenses around depending on what i am doing, as it is held up by 2 screws. Not very hard to do. Thanks for your information.
