Greg Gabis is going to race at Infineon Raceway this weekend (Aug 7/8)
He'll be running in 500 twins and 450 superbike.
I'm racing in 500 twins only. It would be great to have some of the GS crew show up and cheer us on.
I think there's a pretty good chance I may finish the race this time. Although I'm beginning to get superstitious. So far whenever I've had people show up to watch me race, the bike breaks down :dunno:
At the last race at Buttonwillow a couple from Gilroy showed up. The bike threw a rod on the warmup lap and wiped out my whole lower end :x  :x
That blew any shot a a repeat championship.
I put the trusty old 2 valve motor in and it's ready to rip.
Just look for #23 (me) and #223r (Greg)
I'm going to try and set things up so we can pit together.
Hope to see you there :)  :)  :)

Let us know how you both place. Better see some pics too!

Cool,

Is this the first or second trip to Kalifornia for Greg-the-jet-setting-GS-pilot?

Wish I could be there, but I'm on the wrong coast! Good luck to both of you.

I've been thinking about going.  Is anyone else from the area planning on going?  I'm probably going to cage it up there because my new computer will be arriving at my house and I can't haul a big box back on my bike too well ;).  Home (Walnut Creek) is in between Los Gatos and Sears Point so it makes sense to just take my Toyota pickup.

If someone is heading in the same direction on their bike I'd consider riding with them.  A couple hours on the freeway doesn't sound too appealing though since I have my drag bars installed.  My throttle hand goes numb around Pleasonton

James, you gotta follow along a little closer. ;)
It's the first & so far the only time, as far as we know.

Not much chance of me getting there but can anyone tell me, Does any of this get televised? if so what is the full correct title of the race class etc,.

We have a fairly sophisticated digital sattelite Tv system with a thousand and one channels and it's amazing what you can find on obscure channels at four in the morning (don't even ask!)

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Pam G

No it won't be televised.  It's just an regular club level event.  Nothing like an AMA Superbike event.

Greg made it to California.  They were finishing up minor details on the bike yesterday & went to the track to set up their pit area.
Today is practice day, tomorrow the races.

He's been pretty busy since getting to CA.  I don't even know if he's had time to surf.  The web, that is.

Greg survived practice day.  There was a problem earlier with the bike stalling, but they found that the fuel filter was installed backwards. :nono:
(I don't think Erik did that, maybe the prev. owner.)

Unfortunately in Greg's last practice session someone carshed & had to be air-cared out.  He didn't make it. :(
Major bummer.  My condolences to his friends & family, whoever they may be.

Any possibility of a race report coming soon?

If you're still processing the tragedy from Saturday and need a little time I understand.

Greg did pretty good for someone with no track knowledge and very little practice time.
Infineon is a very technical and demanding track. It takes some time to get it dialed.
On Saturday, Greg only got 1 lap in the first session when the bike started starving for fuel. They adjusted the float level and only got 2 laps in the second session when the same thing happened. :x  :x
They traced it to a fuel filter installed backwards
Problem solved. Got 2 full sessions and a quick 3 lap session to end the day.
1 full session on Sunday morning and that's it for practice.
Lap times were dropping with every lap. Down to a respectable 2:09
Some guys take a full season to get to that point.
Greg raced the 450 superbike class first and turned 2:09 every lap within 2 tenths. Mister consistent  :)
In 500 twins he managed to get in the 2:08s
Except for a rough start, a very good weekend.
I really enjoyed meeting Greg, Eric and Dana. Great bunch of guys!
It's a shame nobody showed up to meet Greg. :dunno:
They missed out
I hope we can do it again in the future. :thumb:

Sorry I couldn't make it up for the race.  I really wanted to make it to another before school starts up again.  I'm also in the process of locating another job.  When school starts again on the 25th I'll only have Friday's to work at the machine shop so that won't work out for me or my employer.  We're still friends/on good terms but it just won't be productive if I am only working one day of their work week.  I'm currently going over some local restaurants deciding which might be a decent place to serve.  Unless someone here has a lead on a person that needs weekend and night help for decent pay in the south bay ;)

He really didn't give me any lap-by-lap details, just that he & the bike survived & did not have a DNF.  Mr Broussard did lap him in one race.

Detailed race report coming soon. Didn't get home til 3am this morning and I hafta work and all.

Bob, thanks for the kind words. You are very gracious. Also, big thanks to Bob for talking me around the track. I learned a lot just listening and visualizing as Bob described the track. Had lotsa fun!

Mad props to my homey Erik Mathy for the factory ride.

Special thanks to the lovely and talented Pam_G for helping feed my addiction and helping me with my racing, too. ;).

I'll be back with the full on report soon.

Nice meeting you Greg.

Bobs face was a ear to ear smile, congrats on the win, see you on the 5th.
