Okay, so today I learned how far my GS can go on a tank of gas.

(Forgot to take it off reserve yesterday when I put gas in it)

So I'm sitting on the side of the road, basically waiting for someone to feel sorry for me and give me a lift to a gas station when a pack of Harley riders cruise by and FLIP ME OFF.

You gotta love the position us GS riders are in, we get hell from all angles.

Squids on full fairing bikes sneer at us for not having fairings, and harley riders sneer at us for driving an import bike.

wow, that's really god damn cold.  i can't believe that people will not help other people solely based upon what their ride is.  i stopped a while ago when i saw a harley on the side of the road, evidentally he had just fixed his problem though, and we took off together and stayed together for around 30 miles, till he gave me a thumbs up and peeled off on an exit.  don't blame the harley riders, just blame people that are assholes.

Last time I was on the side of the road it was a harley rider that pulled over to help me out.  Oh and BTW, my sister rides a harley.

When the need is great enough, limitations are meaningless.

Yep a guy who rides a harley stopped and gave me a ride to and back from a gas station when i ran out of gas (on the GS, same thing too).

Its not the machine, its the dirtbag on it.

So tell me, how far did it go on a full tank?

Kerry

And did you happen to TRY setting it to PRI to see if you could squeak out another few miles?

Sorry, I meant spdracer75.  It was supposed to be read as a continuation of charleym3's question.  :dunno:

Correct.  I want to know how far Spdracer75 went on his 5.3 gallons of gas and ... Was he able to get 5.3 gallons into the tank when he finally got fuel...

hahah PRI setting?  yeah, I think I ran it almost dry.

I tried starting it on PRI and just got it to sputter a little.

as for the bike, I'm getting a lovely 48MPG.  I think.

Oh, and of all people to stop and help me was a Semi Driver.  took about 20 minutes out of his day, and even put down the "deposit" on the gas can I had to borrow and returned the gas can for me.

(I have $3 to my name til friday) well, not now.  $2 into the GS, and $1 for a soda.

Gee maybe I don't want to do the mods after all.  I'm getting 60.

Yeah yeah I know, don't ever say "performance" and "economy" in the same sentence.

That's one of the reasons my bike is still stock.  OK, I changed to a K&N in-airbox filter.  But with the restrictor, so as stock as possible.  It was strictly a cost-saving measure over replacing the paper filter every (cough) 4,000 miles!  (Ha.)

BTW, spdracer75's bike only holds 4.5 gallons at most.  It wasn't until '01 that the bigger tanks came along.

i ran out of gas (while on reserve) on the highway..it shout off and wouldn't start again...i switched to prime and drove to the gas station 1.5 km away

spdracer75

hahaha that's about what? 9/10 of a mile?

Yeah, I was about a good 10 minutes away from the nearest gas station.

Got a few bucks from my buddy at work, and my wife is off thursday/friday so I'll be fine for tomorrow, and can take her care thurs/fri to work.

hopefully I can keep the GS riding to a minium the rest of the week as I'm starting to get some bites on the GS riding back / forth to work each day is racking some miles on the bike.

oddly enough in the past two weeks I've put more miles on the bike than in all the time I've had it.  (used to just take it out on weekends for a few hours here and there)

I'll miss my GS, but  life happens.  I'll probably get another one someday, or if I some extra money I might be getting this wnter comes through I'll shop for a Ducati monster 600 in the spring.

Yes, I offered it for sale in the GS buy/Sell/Trade forum.

After a week with no bites, I tried my luck with fleabay.

Now that the bike is aon Fleabay, I've got GS members asking about it.

   The irony.

HA! the funny thing is I saw the pic last night on ebay and quickly switched back over to GSTWIN to see if your name and the ebay one were the same/similar. They of course were so I didn't feel the need to PM you in a panic.
