are all sparks plug the same?

i just changed mine and weird stuff started happening...

usually they come in individual boxes right?...mine came in a vacuum packed package...it's NGK and with the same product code...so are they the same?

also...should i get standard, cold, or hot plugs??

Yea NGK quality seems to have taken a crap of late... those plugs that killed gino's motor have now satretd acting weird... they would run a little, then crap out, run fine at WFO and crap out as soon as you shut it, ... general misbehaving... I also dont swap plugs that aren't bad.

I run NGK in all 3 of my bikes without any problems. 1 hotter in the GS & TLR, stock in the XR.
Common sense in not very common.

Best... the same old plug you took out... unless you detonated and chewed it up...  think the next choice is champions... unless you want to try bosch platinums... I dont trust NGK platinum's either.

Below are the plugs listed for the GS500 according to the NGK page.  A common mistake is that people do not check the plug gap and just install the plugs thinking they are already set to the proper gap.  The other mistake is that some people buy the wrong plugs for many wrong reasons.

For a stock GS500 the plugs below will work the best.

Standard    DPR8EA-9          0.035 Gap

Iridium       DPR8EIX-9         0.035 Gap



The letter "R" MUST be in the part number for the plug you use since it shows that the plug is a Resistor Type which the GS500 is designed to use.  If you are using a DP8EA-9 it is the wrong plug and will casue the bike to run like crap since it is not a Resistor Type plug.

a buddy of mine had to rebuild his cr after that little metal piece came off in the cylinder.

i'm pretty sure the product code is the same...but i check the gap again...i have a gapper...and it has a space to spread the gap...how do you make the gap smaller??

Don't these tools usually come with a notch in the edge that goes over the mass electrode? This is used to bend the electrode, and can make the gap both wider and smaller.

That is not the plugs fault!  That was due to the carb setting being on the lean side and the metal piece melted off the plug and damaged the cylinder.

One thing that is nice is that on a naked bike it's alot easier to change the plugs.  I haven't changed plugs in about 2 1/2 years on my CBR  :roll:
