do the icon recon pants actually have any armor, or is it pretty much just double-ply denim in the knees?

I think its just double ply but there seems to be something alittle stiff between the layers.  They are also thickly insulated.

Oh, I think mine are the barrier jeans, not sure if they are same as the recon.

do you think they are any better than regular jeans?  i was thinking about the draggin' jeans khakis, but the recon pants are about half that price.

no doubt they are better...  The double thick plus insulation makes for a heavy pair of jeans.  I have heard people say they are only margianally better than jeans, but they've got to be as good as wearing 3 pairs of jeans at once.  I feel safer in them than regular jeans.

be prepared to have some sweaty legs during hot weather.  i wear my barriers all the time, people cannot tell the difference with them to regular jeans.  also, they are a little tight, so u might wanna get one size up to what you would normallly wear on regular jeans.

Check out "Draggin Jeans" I have a pair and my parents don't know I had a bike for almost a year. I walk in and out of the house wearing them.

If you are refering to the Icon Barrier pants, or the other ones that look the same... DO NOT GET THEM!

IMO They are a WASTE!!!! of time. They DO NOT have armor in the knees. If you want to get some jean-looking pants with armor protection, go Joe Rocket Atomic jeans. That's what i'm going to get... and i'm going to return the icon jeans. Check out: imotorcyclestore.com for RIDICULOUSLY low prices... well at least as low as it probably gets.

Funny that... I heard the new Icon jeans don't have padding but that they are Kevlar inforced and have held up really well in crashes.  :dunno:

Don't know which model, but it's enough to make me not want to slander all jeans until I know.  :thumb:

i'm happy with my barrier jeans from icon.  they seem to be pretty durable.  kevlar inside and the knees and hips have added protection, its not armor but its better than regular jeans.

I have a pair of draggin' jeans.  They are great.  Really comfortable, not too hot either.  I wouldn't trust those icon pants at all.  The draggin jeans have kevlar in the knees and butt.  The kevlar will not help against the impact, but it will absorb the slide.  Obviously the rest of the part of the jeans that aren't kevlar won't survive too well if you slide on it.  I heard jeans last about 3ft.  Why not spend the extra money just in case?  They're your legs man, i don't want to have to spend the money on skin grafts.

Are you sure the reinforcement on icon pants are kevlar? I don't think it's kevlar but something called Aramid (I don't know if it's something close to kevlar)
