just a couple of pics of my new bike.

i've got to find a good way to cover the wiring behind those headlights.  i'd rather not use a fairing.

Do you have any pictures from the back, I'm curious about the wierd lighting that you mentioned?

um, normally there's a license plate there.  i had taken it off to get a look at the bracket for the tail light.

by the time i took the pictures, i had already moved the turn signals.  i'm gonna get some short bolts so i don't have those screws sticking out.

the light below the tail light is currently the brake light.  that's not where it was either.  it was tucked further up and out of view.

NO Fairing? Not even one as small as the ->Buell Blast<- screen? you could use a dremel to flatten out the bottom...

Rear is, um, interesting...what plans do you have for it? Are the tail and brake lights bright enough?

edit: keep Sept 12th open...ACH.

the guy gave me three fairings.  there's a pretty small one that i might cut down.  however, i really like the naked look and i'm thinking if i could just get enough plastic to cover those wires it'd look great.

just make a shield that goes from the top of the lights to the bottom of the instruments.

i also might see if there's a way to mount the headlights higher.  the bracket they're on slings them under.  if i could turn that upside down they'd be in front of the wiring and it might look better.

as for the rear.  well, i thought it looked cool till i realized how dinky that tail light was.  it's not impressive in the dark.  so i'm lookin at older R1 tail lights as a replacement.  i think that'll look cool.

and if my tuition waiver for my assistantship goes through next month, i might be able to afford to upgrade that to LEDs.

Can you get a closeup side shot of that headlight setup? I just wanted to see what that setup looked like from the side to see what could be done about hiding the wiring.

I don't know if your bike had the stock headlight or not, but with the stock setup, the wiring was stuffed in the headlight bucket.

I live about 6 miles south of LAX. I've got access to some metal fab equipment that can be used to make new brackets to move those lights up. Or, we might just need to make a little "pod" for those lights to sit in that will hide the wiring. Who knows...

thanks for the offer, Sean.  i might have to take you up on that.  are you thinking of doing this get together sept. 12th?  i'm definitely going if able.

i'll take a picture from the side, but i probably won't get film developed again till next week.  (i've got to take some photos of my vw camper this week for a guy who's doing a book on camper conversions).

here's another picture of the rear with the license plate in:

as you can see, it's a nifty place to hide the plate, except that it leaves no room for a decent tail light.

Hey Indestructo, are you looking for something like this?

http://www.joebluhm.com/gfx/gsheadlightboxtake2.jpg

I made this to solve the same problem. I used to have a fairing, but I realized that I bought this bike for it's naked looks. So I had to make this box to hide those ugly wires. As you can see, it comes up and forms to the gauge buckets and wraps around and down to connect to the brackets I made to hold the lights in place. I'm am going to get some full shots of the bike soon enough and post them.

Good looking bikes and real nice on the box for the wiring. See what I mean about factory wiring? You could cut that down to next to nothing and then you really wouldn't have to hide that much...but I am abby normal so never mind me. GS500...fine motor-machine, GStwin forum...sometimes I just duck.

Oh no, shorter would be nice. It's just a good idea to leave a little extra in case it needs to be moved or modded, or the original put back on. Once you cut it, it's too late.

Also indestructo, what type of chin spoiler is that. I dig it's shape.

What restraint!  If _I_ were The Antibody I would have sent you to my original announcement in the Headlight Finished! thread, where you could "Oooh!" and "Aaahh!" over those spiffy homemade brackets....

Ah, but then, Clark Kent usually understated things to draw attention away. Very nice work tho'. Does he love his GS? Does he love this forum? It is a rhetorical question with the paradox of possibly having answers. I love it and it.

SORRY! Kerry  :)

I sometimes get a bit excited over this stuff. I will attempt to show no emotion in my future posts.

No problem.  After all, _I_ "Oooh!"ed and "Aaah"ed over those spiffy brackets.

That was some bang-up work!   :thumb:

No need to patronize Kerry. My hopes and dreams are already crushed. I guess I'll just salvage what I still have. . . This wonderful forum, and my GS.

You like that cernunos?  :)

That brings a tear to my eye...sniff...you see how wonderful the bike can be...it shows in your handiwork. I know some of you love it (the baby G and it's forum) as much as I (do).

OK, it's starting to get a little "deep" around here.  :?

All I did was try to put a guy on a pedestal, and NOW look what I've done....

From what I've heard, cowboys, cows and "deep stuff", kinda go hand in hand...wheel to wheel...wheel to cow...from what I've heard. We still love it (the bike) and I hope to still enjoy the enjoyment of it (the forum).
