Just looking for anything and everything you guys know about stoppies.
How to do them. What to be careful of. Any tips you have. Stoies. Anything.

Cool. Thanks.  8)

If you wanna learn to do it make sure its in a deserted parking lot and your alone.  My only story is I bought this Yamaha Maxim 700 with dual front disk breaks. So easy to do its fun :D

I still can't do them, I don't know how.  Do you gradually slow down and just pull hard on the break at the last second, or are you supposed to be going fast when you break? I really have no idea. All of the videos I've seen usually watch the bike close up so you can't really tell how fast it's going.

I found this article, but have not tried it yet.  I like the suggestion of practicing next to the hospital.

From what I've done...which isn't very much....you pretty much need to put your nuts right up on the tank, and jam on the front brake....I usuallly swing my weight forward [if that makes any sense], and JAM on the brakes.  Going too fast will result in front wheel lock-up, which is bad, and going too slow will result in cracked nuts....also bad.  Even if you DO get the rear tire up, the sound of the back end CRUNCHING back onto the ground will drasticallly reduce your need to do more.  It CAN be done though.   :)

First of all, make sure that the surface is good. You don't want your front to slip... :nono:

Grab the tank with your knees firmly, put some weight on the handlebar.

Pull the brake firmly, but not too fast (too fast = wheel lock) or to slow (you'll stop before anything lifts). When the front fork is bottomed out (or very close to that), pull the brake some more. You might get a squeel from the tire, so don't panic!

Start practicing with low speed, lifting your rear just a little and coming to a stop as you do. Mind you the rear wheel is going to land hard.

With enough practice you can go faster, drive a couple of meters just on the front wheel and before stopping you can release the brake just a tad so that the landing is softer. ;)

Or you don't stop at all - just land and go. :dunno:

GS brakes are good enough for all of the above.

I do stoppies all the time.. but endoes.. no, havent got the balls for it yet.. lol

I say stoppies meaning getting the rear wheel in the air as you stop and endo meaning accually travelling with the rear wheel in the air.

All I do is, coming to a stop, progressively adding pressure to the brake... then as I feel the fork bottoming and me coming to a stop, hit it harder and the rear wheel will come up.. you just have to play around till you get the feel and proceed from there. You'll end up knowing how much force to put and stuff.

And if your at all mechanicly inclined and you want to learn how to nail endoes on top of stoppies (so like accually travelling a fair distance on the front wheel) then I would STRONGLY recommend you to remove the fairings for now and put sliders on it... because the more you push it the more likely it is to fall...

P.S. Dont know what kind of vids you were watching... but some edit out alot of silly mistakes and drops... if you watch an actual practice session from a stunt group (kinda more blackmarket... they arent really mainstreem vids) you'll see the amount of drops and crashes there is in stunting... and MOST of them DONT hurt... but its a Buddha Loves You to do that to your new bike. If you have the $$ get a POS and play around on it.

Either way, scratches add character! have fun! :thumb:
