Last night I had to drive my firend's new bike home for him.  That was the frist time I've ever driven anything bigger than a 500cc and all I can say is, "Wow!"  The whole trip, I couldn't rip the smile from my face.  I was driving beside my buddy's car down the freeway at 100km/h and it still had enough power to just take off past him like it was off the starting line. Amazing! That little 600 could get up 240km/h with absolutely no problem and it still had plenty of juice left.  I had no idea a 600 would be so powerful, it's not even a racing model.

                   

I love my GS500F but I think this experiece has finally answered my debate of whether or not to get a bigger bike next summer. Just thought I'd share my momemt of bliss with you guys.

no boubt 600s are sweet and the power is intoxicating.  If you aren't in stop n  go traffic frequently, then the 600SS bikes are awesome fun.

Actually I was against it, I almost had him into getting a GS500F.  I'm not exatcly sure how to read those dyno charts (well, from a comparison point of view I guess). Are you saying the CBR600F4 is similar to the 600RR?

That's what scares me, heh.  Plus I've got to put some serious thought into what bike I'm getting next. I don't want to go too small but I'm scared that if I go to big, I'll kill myself.  :dunno:

i would think your experience with the 600 has shown that a 600 isn't too small.

That's very true but I don't want to end up wanting more power once I get used to, say a 600, after spending all of that money.  As it is, trading up after one year is gonna be expensive enough.

Let me give you a piece of advice: stick with the 500 until you are hauling so much ass on the bike that you absolutely need more power. All that power does is get you into trouble... i should know, my first bike was a cbr600 f2. That had more power than i could ever need/use on the street. The only time i really got on it i was on a small incline hill and i did an unintentional wheelie. SCARED THE shaZam! OUT OF ME. That's how it feels to ride those bikes at almost all times:scary. Get a little squidy with the throttle, next thing you know you are doing 70mph in a hearbeat. 100hp is nothign to scoff at... and the f4 has more HP than my old f2 and is lighter. overall, i was contanstly scared to be on that bike... with good reason IMO. But i think since i crashed/totaled my cbr that i have a pretty good comparison b/w the gs and the cbr. You won't take my word for it, i didn't with everyone who told me... cant expect you to be any different. Get an older f2/f3 for around 3k instead of the 7k you'll be spending for a new*er cbr. most likely, it won't stay rubber side down all the time so don't go crying all the way to the bank when you do drop it. Hey, with that...    those bikes are way way sick and i wish i hadn't crashed mine. Plus, you'll roll chicks all day long... i had them screaming at me while i went bye (love college campuses).  :mrgreen:

I totally understand what you're saying but there's no way I can hold myself away from that much power any longer, heh. If I can afford it, I'm definantly upgrading next spring.  To what exactly is still the question...
Btw, it sucks that you crashed your bike. Glad to see you're okay and that you've found a bike that you can enjoy.  I love the GS500 too, but it just doesn't have the kick that I'm looking for.

i'm with you.  after the past 2 summers on mine, i think i'm moving up next year too.  i think my gs is going to a good home which is good.  a friend of mine wants to get into bikes again and he says he wants a 125cc for some reason. i'm working him into the gs idea though.  he'll come around!   :mrgreen:

He'll come around, heh.  Maybe you can help me decide what bike to get next year. I have no idea what I want or where to find out which bike has what qualities. What are you thinking of?
