What did you do about that ugly back fender??

I want to chop it off!! It's so ugly, and it runs over the back tire and acts as the bottom portion of the "trunk" space and holds my blinkers.  What is the easiest and ChEaPesT way to get rid of this ugly piece of plastic without causing all new problems?

are those stock rims? if so did you use paint stripper to get the black out?

pantablo

jusAgs,
that looks good. Looks like you did what I did but you used the stock license bracket. Good thinking.

Nice rim polishing too.

Thanks, I masked off the center of the rim and used aircraft paint stripper.  Cleaned off any remaining with stainless steal wool.  Also stripped the pillion handle.  I like the look.

p.s. by buying after-market signals and relocating them, I could trim A LOT more of the fender.  I like the signals up on the rear fairings.  Looks more aggressive imho.  Notice the usd brake light?

I bought my 02 GS with about 4k miles on it and the rear fender was cut off like shown in the gstwins link.  I would rather not have it cut off as it was put there for a purpose.  Get much more splash up on the rear of the bike and rider when riding fast in heavy rain.  License plate and tail light are quickly covered over with dirty water making them hard to see clearly.   :(

Probably not a problem for you Southern California riders, be we have had much rain this year.   :x

Since I put on the Givi case it catches the high spray instead of it hitting my back.  Still gets the plate and light very dirty though.

Actually, the signals jutting out in the back make it harder to manuver the bike through the labyrinth it gets trapped in while parked at work... they're the limiting factor in clearance on the rear half of the bike.

SPARKPLUG1977

to get the black off of your rims... just use rubbing alcohol and a scotch brite. If you are really daring, start the bike and put it in gear. You can get the paint off the rear in 15 min. the front takes a little longer.

When you say aircraft stripper, I immediately think MEK.  That stuff will eat paint off ANYTHING.  Oh, and give you cancer.

oramac

The seat is a Corbin Gunfighter.  Yes, it's comfy.  It's nice 'cause I can press myself back into it when crouching behind the screen on the highway.  Less wind buffeting.  The paint remover was the aircraft paint remover spray that is available at autozone.  I believe I read about someone else on the board using it, so I can't take credit for the idea, but I can take credit for the results!
