Much as I hate to see a rider down, some people just seem to be practically begging for things like this to happen to them. This guy was obviously one of them. He must've been absolutely flying to do that sort of damage to the car...good lord!

Another one of those people who thinks it's all just a private video game out there. Gotta pay to play I guess. Hopefully he'll have learned something from this...assuming he survived.

Some people are just so dumb.  I love it when I'm lanesplitting in town and I find some SS squids at the front of the line, and they laugh at me cuz it's 105 or 110 degrees.  I've got jeans, my beat-up-twice-crashed-on Hein Gericke jacket and some old should be black, but are so sunburned they are brown AMA gloves, along with my scratched TZ-1 with a clear shield.  Then I ask how many times they have crashed, and they tell me they are "too good to crash."  Then it's my turn to laugh!!

I agree that this proves that riding gear is essential.  That poor bastard's skin, or what's left of it, just took a beating.  A youngster on a scooter asked me why the riding gear is important, and I asked him what it would be like to fall onto a really big belt sander.  He got the message.  (I'd think he'd have had enough imagination to figure it out himself, but oh well.)

I think it also says a lot about emergency responder folks, because it sure looked like the fellow was getting terrific attention from some real professionals.  Thank the Lord for good people willing and able to help those in need like that.

But I also agree you have to wonder "WTF Happened?"  The photos don't show clearly.  My guess is the car turned left in front of the motorcycle from the other direction, failing to yield or maybe even to SEE the 'busa.  That might explain the car's and motorcycle's positions when they came to rest.  It would not be unreasonable that the speed limit there could be 35-45, as it is a four-lane road.   To my mind there is a good chance the biker wasn't being maniacle, but just ran into a car that wasn't supposed to be there.  Even at 35mph, the bike has a lot of kinetic energy that might just possibly be enough to do that to a modern Mercury rear-end.  If my theory is correct, it is interesting how much the car spun, but it also looks like the bike may have been laid down before actually hitting the car (which would explain the trunk door looking OK but the rest of the back end looking like it does).  Maybe with the rear end's new misalignment caused the car to spin farther than just the collision would.  Not easy to be sure from the photos, but I'm sticking with my theory of a car turning left in front of the bike.

Anyone have a better analysis of what probably happened?  I could be wrong, but don't see at the moment how I could be, at least about what happened (car turning in front of m/c) though I can't really claim any good expertise about the speed.

At least the fellow seemed to have had on a helmet.  Probably saved his life.  He knew enough to do that, and maybe that's a sign of progress.
