First Timer with bike troubles

Hi guys, joined the site a little while ago but never had the opportunity to say hello yet, so hello to everyone.

So, i have a 07 GS500F and i'm loving it every minute i get to ride it. It has just over 8000kms on it which i put the last 2000 on it since i got it. It was parked alot by the original owner i'm guessing cause of the low mileage.

So the other day i started the bike and let it warm up with the choke on as i was taught to do. Took it out of the garage and went for a ride, stopped at the gas station and fueed it up. Went to start it and nothing happened, clutch in and nada, in neutral and nada. Lights were on but nothing happened. Pushed start it and it fired up, went on my way. Got to the lights and it died on me again, same as all above and had to push start it in intersection and off i went.

Haven't rode in a few weeks cause of extreme heat and got an offer to go for a little ride with my cousin. I'd say about ohhh an hour and a half later we were slowing down coming to the light and as i down shifted from 2nd to 1st it backfired and the engine died but i popped the clutch to get her going again and it did. Got closer to home and it died, no lights or nada. Rolled her forward, jiggled her from side to side then it came alive again so i dunno, been leary of taking her out for a ride lately until a motorcycle veteran gives me an insight on where to start.

Make sure you have a good connection at the battery. An original battery with corroded terminals and a loose connection might cause this problem. As the RPM's drop the battery can't bridge the loose connection or corrosion and then the bike dies.

Is your kickstand loose?

1) Check your battery and replace if necessary. I had similar problem
2) Check for loose kickstand. I had similar problem here too.

Is your kickstand loose?

Make sure you have a good connection at the battery. An original battery with corroded terminals and a loose connection might cause this problem. As the RPM's drop the battery can't bridge the loose connection or corrosion and then the bike dies.

Checked the battery and all terminals look fine, no corrosion whatsoever and the kickstand looks tight to me, no freeplay of any kind. Went over the connections i could see and everything looks good. Gonna have to get a battery tester to check these things.

I had similar problems. Loose negative connection on the battery.
