Wiring Doubt

Hey everyone, how's it going?

I need a little help figuring out some wiring on my 2008 GS500E.

Long story short: the bike sat for almost two years while I hunted down engine parts. To make matters worse, the previous mechanic gave up on it after taking the whole thing apart. Since no local shops around here want to touch a GS500, I finally bit the bullet and rebuilt the engine myself!

Since the entire wiring harness was disconnected, I've been plugging together everything that matches, but I'm left with these two connectors and have no idea where they go. Does the larger one connect to the battery and the smaller one ground to the frame somewhere?

Also, is the main starter fuse in the right spot here with the right cables?

Good job on rebuilding the engine, the GS500 is a great learner bike. What was the problem with the engine out of interest.

I have a coloured schematic for you to follow if that will help. I could take some pictures if you don't come right. Ive also go the factory emanual if you need it.

Hey! Thanks for taking the time to help me out, I really appreciate it!

Man, it really is a long story, haha!

To make it short: I was having charging issues because the flywheel/stator magnets kept shattering, and I kept trying to glue them back together. I ended up replacing the stator, starter relay, and rectifier, but kept fighting with the flywheel.

After getting stranded twice, we opened up the flywheel cover one last time and noticed play in the crankshaft—moving side-to-side (< and >) instead of up-and-down.

Turns out it was missing the thrust washers/bearings inside the crankcase that keep the crankshaft from sliding laterally!



If you could share that wiring diagram and those photos, that'd be great!

I actually managed to find a picture showing that the small ring terminal goes on the engine block near the shock absorber. I think everything is pretty much sorted out now!

Note that the stand alone wiring diagram is for an early 90s like, yours might be different, the factory manual has a more up-to-date diagram towards the back but it is less colourful
