Ok so as some people might or might know, i've been getting help about turning my carbs... So when messing with carbs it requires full acceleration across RPM to see if there's stumbling, etc. So i've been having this problem with stumbling... so i've been going up and down my block with either full-1/2-or whatever throttle trying to figure it out.

So last night was no exception. So i'm heading out of my street to try another round to conclude what was going on... maybe doing 40mph. I see this guy, he locks eyes with me and then walks directly in front of me and stands there. I lock up my tires in a panic to keep from hitting this SOB  :x  and ALLLLLLMOST go into a low side. I come around because obviously he did it on purpose... he's still standing there looking pissed off. I come to a stop and the next thing i hear is "you F'ing a**hole, next time i'll knock you on a F'ing A**! in shock, i say "you could have made me crash... He looks at me "i wish you had crashed!" Still in shock, i say "you want my life on your hands?" "Ya i do, next time i'm gonna make your crash" I just lost it then and what follows was me telling him to "F" off and if he has a problem with me he can come talk to me like a man, and NOT stand in front of me. he just walks away... another neighbor comes out and just starts chiming in saying how he'll call the police next time, etc etc. I was so pissed, and shook up... i can't even believe people are like that. I'm going to file an incident report with the sheriff today. "F" that guy.

Anyone had ANYTHING happen to them like this??? Am i really unlucky?

Not to me... however jetting is to be done mostly in top gear... you have to test it in 5th or 6th... it should work well under load.

Where's a good place to do it? Main street? obviously i can't do it on my street anymore. I could notice a huge stumbling right off the line in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, didn't get to any other because it was so pronounced. Now that i'm thinking about it... the bike really really picked up at 4k rpm... i would pull back on the throttle and it'd just maintain same speed, or maybe really slowly increase RPM at lower rpm until the 4K spot. It's gotta be the pilot jets if it's that high rpm.

OK Pilots only work to 1/8 throttle... 4K under 1-2-3 is a wide enough throttle position range... 40 pilots wont make any diff to this specific issue ... try them and see. That's slide... all slide. Pilots will sorta feel a little sluggish as you try to take off from a stop... in first. After that... nohting else. I'd ride it on a highway... for the high speed stuff, low speed I try my and other neighbor hoods... but not racing down them... or other local roads..

You need to have someone ride your bike so you can appreciate just how loud the VH exhaust can be... No doubt your neighbors were annoyed (even though they over reacted).

My favorite road for tunning is on the back side of our airport- freshly paved, 4 lanes, straight for 3 miles and rarely used.  The jets kick in based on throttle postition.  So you'll want to see how the bike reacts at Wide open and 3/4 throttles- and higher gears can make a difference- I had a couple problems surface in 4-6th gear WOT... anyway- your neighborhood streets may not be the best choice.

Have you checked the packing in your muffler.  I repacked mine and dropped the dB s.  I could actually hear the engine over the muffler again... neighbors and family appreciated the lowered noise level.

there's never reall a justification for acting like that guy did.  That said, gunning your bike up and down my street would probably piss me off enough (eventually)  to come ask you to stop.  

His threats and dangerous actions aren't acceptable at all, but you have to remember the old axom:  "you have to give respect to get respect."  

Neighborhoods are for living, not for full-throttle testing of your new (and probably obscenely loud) exhaust system.  Is there an industrial park or some similar, non-residential are nearby, or some remote country roads?  Either would probably be a better place to do this stuff than up and down your block.

I'm not saying you're a jerk, just that you might not have considered how loud you are being and/or the way it would make your neighbors feel.

Bike owner or not, he should have known better than to do something that could hurt you...and bike owner or not, he should be mature enough to be able to act with civility and class.

I'll agree on the neighbors thing.

I found out shortly after working on a "project" 1898 Iroc (11.3-ish 1/4 Mile Car) that my neighborhood was kind of "uppity" and old.

Now they really don't like me  Since I got the VH exhaust on my GS.  I think my neighbors thought everything would go back to normal after I sold the IROC.

The wife and I keep odd hours, so for us to fire up the IROC at 3 AM to go to Perkins, or IHOP would really, really, upset them.  

But yeah,  Deciding at 10/11 pm to go ride the strip in the GS tends to make a few bedroom lights come on ion my block.

A buddy of mine used to have one, and when he'd come over I would swear my house was being buzzed by a Huey!

I warm-up the bike on a noisy street.  I've recieved no complaints from neighbors.

Why not just go to the neighbor(s) and see if you can work something out? Maybe they think you are some a**hole who doesn't give a damn about their peace and quiet etc. Or maybe you could just spend the week-end at the local dragstrip until you get the bike sorted. I love my teeny GS and the mighty GStwin forum.

Must be a growing trend of shaZam! head neighbors epidimic spreading the the US.  I live what I thought was out in the country until everybody else decided to move out here on this street a few years back.  Mostly old retired people live over here now with nothing better to do but sit around and worry about what somebody else is doing.  Ive got neighbors that treatened to shoot my dog because they said it tried to attack their grandaughter.  I watched the whole thing, they were trying to lure my dog onto their property with dog treats.  But Jon, Ill do you one better.  I have a pro street chevy pickup running on NOS that I was trying to dial in one day long ago.  Went out here on this real straight stretch of road where there is like only one house and its way off the road.  So I launch and lay into the NOS, do may 1/4 mile pass on this road and was coasting the rest of the way to slow down when all of a sudden this @$$hole is standing in the middle of the road pointing and screaming at me.  Bear in mind, Im still going about 90 mph when I see this idiot so I go around him barely missing him.  He jumped in his truck and came tried to chase me.  Even tried to run me off the road at one point.  Anyways, he followed me to my house and tried to start some shaZam! like he was gonna kill me bla bla bla. Glad to know Im not the only one with shaZam! head neighbors.  Sorry about the ramble. :dunno:

There is an old saying..."don't shaZam! in your own yard"...TALK to some of these people or take it to the track. Be the bigger, better man. I love that little ol' GS and the forum.
