Quote from: JamesGThen its a good thing you don't own a TL1000 (or any other big twin) with Yosh pipes.

A buddy of mine used to have one, and when he'd come over I would swear my house was being buzzed by a Huey!

I got a Ducati Monster 750 with D&D Pipes on it.. it ROARS.. :)  I can't imagine the wife's GS500 making anywhere near that noise even with a V&H exhaust.

Screw the neighbors!  They all ride their harleys up and down the road with straight pipes on them.

sandiego ehhh?   if he is military, his body is automaticly assumed to be a deadly weapon no matter what.  by knowingly stepping out in front of you he displayed a intent to do bodily harm.   hey man go get a lawer,  and see if you can press charges.

Quote from: seshadri_srinathI usually just down shift... and dont brake... and I try to aim for the crotch... just dont get target fixated and follow him into his driveway... when he gets wind of it and tries to get away... then go to him and say what you think... When cages cut me off turning left from a driveway or side street... I aim for the driver... and down shift and honk. Usually they get away... and an accident is avoided... I am not just going down only to have them go OK well he fell all by himself... and continue on their way. easier for me to do it on the eli... usually people dont want to get run over/hit by a 600 lb bike, that looks like its all steel.
Cool.
Srinath.

Alright Srinath! :thumb: This was a long read, but finally worth it. You realized that a normal sized human being comprised of soft flesh and breakable bones is no match for a 380lb chunk of metal + rider hurtling down the road. In a game of chicken they will suffer the greater harm in a collision.   There's no way a human standing in the path of a motocycle is "attempted murder" it's more like attempted SUICIDE.

As for rude neighbors, I had a neighbor from hell that lived up a hill from me. He was a party animal and had thus lost his drivers license. He'd get drunk and curse the neighborhood occasionally. Twice he started up his backyard hotrod, loudly cranking it up and doing burnouts in his dirt backyard clouding all the houses below in dust. The second time he did it I called the police. I didn't go talk to him nicely or otherwise. His second time was his last time. He moved the next year. Problem solved.

I wouldn't expect people to put up my racing up and down my street on a loud bike. I've always ridden my loud bikes and quads as quietly as possible in my neighborhood and never had a complaint(or anyone try to commit suicide jumping in my path). If you were to take the guy to court, you would be in trouble for sure. He might be.

However, if you want to break his habit of standing in front of you, take him out with the bike. Just brace for the impact, slow down a little if you're scared, and have a good story planned for the police. You're the one wearing protective gear and you've got weight and inertia on your side.

It's not like i do this regularily, and it's not like i've had this exhaust on the bike more than about a week. I've only ridden up and down the street a few times with the exhaust under any kind of load.

Hm,i think the guy might actually BE military. I'll check into it. What i'm more afriad of next time is him coming out with a b-ball bat and taking a swing at me while i ride by.

i wonder if i can get one of those retraining thingies.

anyways, what proof would HE have of me speeding? He could have jumped out in frnot of me while i was doing 15mph and i still would have almost lost control. Remember the MSF course where they make you lock up your rear tire under 15mph??? Same thing applies here.

Its attempted somehitng... murder if he's trying and succeding to induce panic... Lets call it attempted creation of panic... a experienced... in this situation ... rider wont panic and turn it into a game of chicken... Now The GS and rider is enough to out weigh and out kinetic energy a person... but the fact that the rider is so close to the front of the vehicle... Less than arms length from the front wheel... means you make contact soon... On a eli... you are a good 4 feet back... make contact and you'll not even scratch your self... Its the falling that would hurt... Also looking intimidating is more vital, and looking like its made of metal is pretty intimidating. Brighly colored parts people think its plastic.
Cool.

If all of that were to happen up here in Canada, the conversation might have gone something like this:

"Oh excuse me sir!"

"Yes, is there something I can do for you?"

"I hate to be a bother but your driving is a little loud and keeping my daughter up."

"Oh really? I'm so sorry, I didn't even think of that when I revved my engine so loudly."

"No, no, it's quite alright. I'M sorry for disturbing your motorcycle commute."

"Don't worry about it at all, I really am sorry about all of this though."

"Thanks for your understanding."

"Thank YOU for letting me know I was being too loud."

"Anytime. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon"

"Yes, thank you, have a good day, sir. I hope your daughter can sleep now."

"Good bye."

"Thanks again and it was nice meeting you."

I rest my case as far as animal versus bike/rider goes. This was bear vs Harley, but man vs GS500 would likely come out the same. Bear and man would be DOA or close to it. Even clipping them with the bar, you might go down, they are busted up for sure.

Quotebut i'd say more like bond with me over a shitty situation that almost got me seriously hurt just like every other thread on here does when it says "almost crashed today."

bad situation, yes, but one that could have been prevented.  this is one of those times that was a poor choice at a poor time, in poor location. everyone speeds, everyone tests and tunes. and given different backdrop, (non-residential area) you might have 100% backing you, with tourches and pitch forks.   this goes if you had HIT and HIM BEING A WEAPON THEORY

did he just pop out of a blind spot? proves to a traffic inspector that you were going too fast (yes he will know from the scrapes) to deal with a typical emergency stop/avoidance   or

did you see him from a distance?  then it would be enough for the judge to see you reconized the person as a potential threat but didnt act on it to avoid the idiot acting as a catchall. this would prove to me you had no regaurd for life being the judge, i would also slap the pedestrians ass about abit too, J-walking, obstructing the flow of traffic, ect.

i have been in Mr. A$$Hats position,   was i right? NO but i do see his point, just like i see yours, but haveing been on the wrong side of the court bench during my early years of riding has shown me how  "They"
think and interprate the rules.   Sadly, its their way that counts.

On a highway and someone is playing chicken with you. YES they are useing a weapon

Riding your ass, YES,  Playing tag, YES, tossing things out of window YES, letting your dog run out to intercept a biker coming down the street, YES *but only if not speeding and can avoid reasonably* but i would also push for leash law infraction in that case siteing endangerment.

I get alittle crazy when i ride, but i am very picky about where as i got tired of points on my license and paying fines.  Plz dont see my posts as coming down on you, i was you at one time. im hoping to show you so you dont go through what i did, No one should know the clerk of the courts traffic divisions address or tellers by heart. for some time, i knew that info better then the cops writing the tickets.  above all, the loss of life, yours, thiers isnt worth it.   chalk this up in lessons learned and go on my friend.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

Sure, the conversation might have gone something like that.  Or, your disturbed neighbor might have clotheslined you with a hockey stick for racing up and down the street.  :P

That's not to say that Canada isn't a great place to be, it's just that great Canadians like Wayne Gretzky and Miguel DuHamel often choose to live in the United States.  ;)

Ok, final update to this horrid story.

So this whole thing has been eating me up for a few days... i mean, the thought that someone was delibrately trying to kill me really bothers the hell out of me.

I couldn't take it any longer. I stopped by his house after work in my business attire to show him i'm not a punk. I knocked on the door, and his wife??? answered the door and told me the guy wasn't there. I was like "TELL HIM TO COME TALK TO ME I'm AT SUCH AND SUCH ADDRESS"

The guy shows up about 3hrs later when i'm struggling to get my carbs to work right (which i figured out and will tell everyone who wants to use DJ's jet kit). We chit chat... I got a good look at this guy and he's some, i'm assuming, special forces military guy or something. He and i reconsiled our differences by this kind of conversation:

"My name is jon" "Jason" "ok jason, i don't want to be an @$$hole, so i don't want to piss anyone off... but i was going up and down the street trying to get my carbs to work on my bike" "there's no reason you should have been going that fast" "i wasn't going that fast... like 40-45mph" "we measured 60' of skid marks" "really, so??? the point is, you should have come over and talked to me! You don't need to endanger my life just to get your point. I would have gotten it just as well if you had come talk to me" "i didn't know who you were" "you saw me turn in here didn't you???" .... "well we both could have acted differently that night" "You're right, i was going too fast, but dude, there's no reason for you to almost kill me over it. In fact, if you had done anything and i'd have crashed, you'd be held responsible. I'd be in the hospital and you'd be in jail. if you're a father you should think about those sorts of things." "i can handle my shaZam!, i knew what i was doing when i was out there" "Oh ok dude, but the point is IF that happened you'd be accountable" "I just snapped and in an instant i did that. My intention was not to have you crashed, i just wanted to curse you out... i just walked out from behind my truck" "yeah dude! YOUR TRUCK! I couldn't see you!" "yeah i feel bad cause my roomate (also with a zx6) does stupid shaZam! like that too and i yell at him too!!!"

anyways, i could go on and on but basically we came to the conclusion that he's 1. slightly psycho 2. we can get along 3. he understands where im' coming from and vica versa. 4. there's no hard feelings... we shook on it and i told him to come back anytime and we'd have a beer together.

That's the update, thanks for letting me cool off here and getting some diverse opinions... i STILL think i'm the bigger/more mature man.

Merc, you have just helped man-kind get a little bit closer to civility. That took a lot of courage to swallow your pride and at least try to talk first. One reason I say this is that when I was younger I was won't to fly off the handle at times over similar situations and the ensuing violence was quite ugly (in more ways than one). In retrospect there are many instances where I could have handled things differently and no-one would have been hurt. My hats off to you and have a beer on us  . (so I hope you have slowed down around the neighborhood  8) ) Wishin' I could ride the little baby GS and wishin' all in the forum a beautiful week-end.

okay, i'll bite.

tried to kill you... dude. he stepped out in front of a heavy ass machine doing 40-45 mph. and you're hollering about attempted murder. handled it the wrong way, yes. but if he would have held a hand up, or yelled as you passed, would he have gotten your attention?
i'm on your side for the most part for this. i don't know what the speed limit is on your street, but if it's 25, like it is mine, 40-45 is beyond excessive. I rarely go above 30 on my street, and i feel guilty when i do it. It's where people live. The road is only there so that people can get from their houses, to the real road. I can sympathize with him big time. when i was about 5, my 3 year old sister was super ass close to getting hit by some kid hauling balls down our street. i remember it so well.

i dunno, i'm at work and about to leave, so i'll wrap it up. he used excessive methods of getting your attention, but his point was very valid. that's my summary.

:dunno:  Maybe teach kids not to run in the street??? No one can stop ALL the crazy people... because guess what,

WE ALL ARE THE CRAZY DRIVERS/RIDERS!  :nono:

we all run late, speed, etc. Don't be high-and-mighty.

Just because i did it that time, doesn't mean someone with a bigger vehicle (AKA: a car which 99.8% of people drive and aren't nearly as manueverable or able to stop) won't do it again... LIKE THEY ROUTINELY DO ON EVERYONE'S STREET!!!

So get off me.  :nana:  THE END.
