Can the fuel be switched off?

Preparing my GS for the winter. I'd like to clear the carbs of any fuel. Does anyone know if it is possible to switch off the fuel (to the carbs)? I'm only aware of the fuel switch offering ON/RES/PRIME. Can it be switched off elsewhere on the bike :dunno:

Love the forum. :thumb:

If you unbolt the tank (or have tiny arms and hands) you can turn the screw on the fuel tap under the tank. On is vertical, off is horizontal. This valve is physically connected to the bottom of the tank.

There are some nice diagrams floating around the forum that show how everything is arranged.

While draining the fuel is the "intuitive" thing to do, there's a better way.  See THIS POST (and the rest of the thread).

I would second Kerry's comments (and those on the thread). Stabil is an excellent product that I first encountered when working with marine engines, I put it anything that will be sitting for any amount of time.

I still would consider shutting off the fuel valve though, you never know when you might develop a leak :dunno:

Not a bad idea at all.  :thumb:
