Anyone familiar with this?

I know they are popular with Savage owners.  At anyrate, if anyone has any familiarity, I would appreciate your comments.  It sounds like i could throw on a better exhaust and filter and then this thing instead of rejetting.

Somewhere else on the site I read that the bike needs to be in a lean state for it to work.

I originally heard about this when I was lurjking in the savage forums awhile back.  They use it to cure backfires

No run from it ... hell dont even say it loud near your bike ... Its wrong 10 different ways ...
1. It sucks fuel from the bottom of the float bowl and That bottom is always crusted with crap from the tank ... OK fine good fuel filter in a un rusted tank will take care of that ... but The drain screw will leak cos its gotta be left open ... or do they have a shorter drain screw ... one that will go on tight and still drain into this things hose ... anyway odd way to richen it ...
2. Its got some weird ass controlling mechanism on a hose and has like a hypodermic needle to squirt gas into the intake stream ... You pierce it into the air box boot and it sits there and is sucking gas ...  It uses vacuum obviously ... assuming you seal it well around the hole you punched ... Ots going to add gas depending on the vacuum whihc ironically drops with increasing rpm ... so your jetting will be altered to be far richer down low and not as much richer up high ... and that's the wrong way to alter it ... Its gotta be slightly richer down low and much richer up high ...
3. Totally irreversible ... you poke holes in the air box boot and if it doesn't work ... you need new boots ...
4. You are kidding if you think its easier to do this instead of rejetting ... you still need to take the carbs off and take out the brass plugs etc, as well as install this thing ... all those random hoses etc are just disasters waiting to happen ...
5. Cost ... Rejet bits cost you ~$16-17 ... I'll sell you the same things + allen head bolts for $20 and shipping ... I'd rejet it for $40 and shipping ...
Savage owners have it ... but I am yet to jet the damn savage that's lying prone in my garage waiting motor ... when i get that done ... I'll post it there ... Heck they'd ignore me just as they did when I asked for tips on building a better motor ... but ask them about saddle bags and tassles on their bars and Each one has 10 ideas ... worse than the harley girlies ...
In any case ... simpler is better, doing it yourself is going to help you now and later and keeping complicated crap out is a good way to keep it from breaking 200 miles from home on a rainy night ...
Cool.

yeah, they are a pain to set and never seem to stay set.  the idea was neat and meant for racers that travel alot to different climates, and altitudes. it was meant as a quick means to dial in the mixture for the enviroment.  dont waist your time, or money, or peace of mind.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.

That "needle like tube" is their version of an emulsion tube.  They claim that they deliver a "light weght emulsion" which can't affect jetting, except when a lean condition occurs.  When vacuum pulls on their tube, some fuel will get pulled down, regardless of the mixture in the the engine.  This will add some fuel to the mix (versus what would happen with just plain air entering), no matter what.  If the engine is over-rich, it would just get richer.  They point out that the "lightweight charge" of emulsified fuel can't displace liquid fuel; no, but it can displace air, which would have mixed with the liquid fuel.  Their design is not "intelligent" at all.

Basically, they are saying that your fancy carb with 3 or 4 jets is not linear enough.  A simple single linear jet (theirs), which is the equivalent of a main jet sans needle, is better.  If that were the case, then I doubt that multi-jet carbs or butterflies would have ever been developed.  We'd just be using one single jet, with no needle, and (according to them) be better-off for it.

If you want weird pre-injector ideas, how about this:  mount a throttle body injector onto the airbox, connected to a propane or butane cylinder.  Control it by engine temperature, and use it to replace the manual enrichment circuit. That would yield some very easy engine start-ups, even at very cold temps, and you wouldn't have to mess with a choke.

If you incorporated vacuum, you could also use it to replace the pilot jet.  The goal would be easy starts and smooth idling at any temperature.
