How long can gas sit stagnant in the tank before i have to worry about it going bad? My gas tank has been sitting in the basement half-full for about a month while my carbs have been getting rejetted. Should i be worried yet? I was thinking about adding some fuel stabilizer and giving the tank the old shaken not stirred treatment for a little peace of mind.

yea, you should apply some stabilizer...it doesn't cost you much.

but i wouldn't woory about it too much. had my bike sitting for more than 4 months. then, i rejetted the carbs. it was clean. afterwards, it ran fine with the same old gas.
My hunch was right...Pandy is the biggest Post Whore!

Adding stabilizer now won't help very much. If I were you I would wait til you are ready to ride and top of the tank with fresh gas.  :thumb:

Larry's probably right.  After 3 weeks or so the varnishing process has started -- not like you could see the effects, mind you.  Dilution is the solution, not stabilizer.  Drain what you have into the lawn motor gas container and stabilize a fresh tank.

That reminds me, I should probably start stabilizing my gas just-in-case the weather turns fowl and the season ends early.

I have left gas in my tank for a year in my atc.  It was garaged the whole time. A little quick start in the air filter and vroom! this was two stroke mix mind you. I always leave gas in my PWC after the riding season is done. I have had the PWC for 9 yrs and no problems starting in the beginning of the season. PWC is stored outside. Winter temp around here is freezing. When the varnishing problems start, does using new gas clear out the varnish?
