He will be contacting you sometime, unless he has already done so.

I second pablo's idea. I could use one for my 2002. Same as 2001.

hmmm...

Maybe if I can get ahold of a new tail, I might make a copy of it instead of modifying an SV tail.
Perhaps even making a conversion kit to retro fit the new tail onto older bikes....

This tail will only fit certain year bikes? if so, which years?

This tail is made for older style bikes, from 89-00. In 01 the body style changed-wider, more capacity gas tank, different design seat and tail peices among some other smaller details. They don't easilt swap from late to early bikes.

I am fortunate that I got a hold of one of these tail sections from James.  He was great to work with and the seat looks great on my bike.  He is right the seat is surprisingly comfortable... I am putting on a seat pad just for added comfort.  I love the look and it goes great with my new Fairing.  Whole new looking GS... Look for pics coming soon!  Thanks James for the hard work and getting the seat to me quick!  I also re-enforced that back section of the tail for the occasional passenger!   Love it!  -Ryan

Yeah.  I'm getting a tail back from dgyver (It was a prototype and too thin so I'm replacing it).
I'm gonna hack that one apart and use the back seat portion to make a solo cover mold with and the rest I'm going to use to make a mold for a "super sport" version replacement for the stock bodywork.

eventually....

I'm pretty sure that, in order to install the solo seat, you have to remove the stock seat and all its associated hardware like the release.  You then zip-tie foam blocks to the frame to support the solo seat.  You sit directly on the solo tail.  If you like, you can glue a seat pad or a cut mousepad or something to the solo tail for "comfort".  If you use this tail, it's not going to be something that you can switch back to stock in a convenient manner.

I believe some people have supported the rear part so they can still carry a passenger.

sorry toecutter to add more confusion, i was inquiring just abou the seat cowl idea to fit over stock seat and such
Kris Johnson

JamesG

errr... which one?  :?

ok a bit of clarification here;

solo seat aka: superbike tail = A complete race tail section with an enclosed seat area and built up rear seat/number plate. Not advised for street bikes.

solo seat cowl = just a covering to go over the rear passenger seat.

supersport tail = CF version of the rear bodywork. Allows use of stock seat.

i was interested in a solo seat cowl
Kris Johnson

JamesG

ok hehehe

Keep in mind that I have to replace dgyvers tail first and I have to repair my mold before I can do that. Plus I have to finish the lower and a CF GS tank first. Plus I have a few SV and MZ Skorpion projects too, in addition to regular production runs.
I can do several things concurrently, but its gonna be a few months at the least until I can get to it...

good god, take a breath!!!

i was curious how you made the molds.  i have been researching fiberglass stuff out of curiousty

do you use a positive mold and wrap or do you lay into a negative mold,  i have mold resources galore ( i work for a climbing hold company)

i was tempted to take this on for fun, was thinking about making a positive foam shape, creating a latex mold and laying fiberglass into it...any ideas?
