I have just picked up a GS500. I knew it had a petol leak and it has turned out  it needs a new tank.
(Some munter has decided to put that crappy plastic trim aroung the seam, you know the stuff, it does nowt but act as a water trap) :x

Bike is a 1998 model.

Question is:
Which years tanks will be the same as the 1998 one?

Thaks in advance

For a '98 model, 1989 to 2000 will fit. That's the 1st gen body style.

Make sure you click the radio button that says "Search for all terms". That should help you out a bit. Also try different combinations of words and astericks to work out what you need.

dgyver

The GS gas tank is notorious for rusting on the inside. The trim you mentioned does not help with the exterior. Best to remove it. Tanks can be treated for interior rust and sealed for future problems. This does depend on how bad it is. POR-15 and Kreem are two common products here in the US. Not sure what is available near you.
Common sense in not very common.

I'm not gonna bother trying to repair it.
Looking for a second hand one now

That munter is Suzuki, and sometimes it helps keep the tank from vibrating against the frame.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?
