October 20th crashed at Buttonwillow raceway.
Get Well Pablo!!

Okay, so week one was cake. Broken collarbone didnt hurt at all but I had some aches from hitting the tarmac. no biggie.

As the first week ended and the swelling subsided It became painfuly obvious to my doctor that I had also cracked a few ribs. Ouch. Painful to lie down on my back. painful to bend over to pick something up. Painful getting up from sitting on the floor with Hugo.

Nearing the end of week 3 ( on thursday) now and the pain is HUGE. I've had to break into the Vicodin and it only cuts the edge off the pain. Collarbone is a nuisance for not having full use of my arm and still no pain from that. But the rib pain....Oh god. I am in a pissy mood much more often and it takes SO LITTLE to set me off these days. Also more exhausted than usual at the end of the workday so hanging with Hugo and taking care of some house stuff is hard. Then I cant sleep from the pain. FACK.

I can't even begin to repair or replace parts on the bike as I dont have use of both arms. And I still have to replace my helmet-Dan/Will, where the hell are you?

Medical bills coming in-Trip to the Trauma ER in Bakersfield plus xrays will set you back $6600, not including the cost of the actual doctor. Can't wait to see that or what the 45 minute ambulance trip will cost me. yes I have insurance-but I also have a high deductible.

Bicycles and motorcycles are off limits until the bones heal more, and the track is off limits for a little longer still. The only two things that give me escape and the adrenaline rush I crave are off limits...I can't express how much I want to get on the track again.

Crashing sucks. Crashing WITH your gear sucks too.
Broken bones suck ass and I have had enough now...

Sorry, I just had to get that off my chest.[/rant]

I have never broke any bones so I do not know what you are going through, but my wife wreck her atv a couple years ago and broke 3 ribs.  She said it hurt worse than childbirth?

2 weeks ago my 5 year old boy fell and another 5 year old fell on top of him.  Result was a broken collar bone.  I can't keep him from doing anything.  I had to make him a special sling and almost strap it to his stomach just to keep him from using his arm.  I also made it so he can not take it off himself.

Also he has not asked or will not take anything for pain, he says it does not hurt.
He is a tough little booger.

At the age of 16 I flipped a car end for end 3 times.  I dislocated my left hip, bruised ribs, scalped right side of head, and had glass embeded in my right shoulder and arm, and was beat to hell and back.  I was on crutches for 2 weeks,  so I was going crazy because I could not do anything myself, but my girlfriend at the time REALLY made me feel much better and I think I took some extra time recovering because of that :thumb:

I hope everything jeals up ok and you get your bike back on the road.

Something I was wondering was, did your health insurance question your coverage due to the fact you were racing on a track???   Just curious?

A guy once told me "having nitrous on your car is alot like dating a hot girl with a STD, your afraid to hit it because of what might happen."

Oh man, I totally know what you mean with the rib pain. It hurts to f%$king BREATHE. I cracked a good number of my ribs when I went down and hit a curb, and it hurt for a month :(. There were times where I just wanted to say "f%$k it, I'm lying down for a week. I can't take any more of this crap." But I still had to go to school and work :(. I feel ya, buddy.

I broke my ribs last year.  The worst part of it for me was these muscle spasms in my ribs.  They muscles around my chest would spasm, contract, spasm, contract, and keep getting tighter and tighter 'til I couldn't get any air.  They had to put me on vicodin and muscle relaxers.  That sucked!!!  At least you didn't need a chest tube!
They will heal pretty quick once they get over the hump. Take care, dude.

Oh how true. Basically you've got a big tube hangin' out your chest attached to a big 'ol box of a vacuum machine with a clear window so you can see how much fluid they drained out (in the case of the air collapsed lung, you're hard out of luck to see what's coming out). This machine is noisy, bulky, and the tube was annoying as hell. You had to be very careful with it. Hell, it made going to the bathroom a daunting task. Those scars take a long time to heal up completely too. Mine is still pink after 7 months!

Sorry man...  Long term pain is the worst...  You get so damn tired of being in pain.  Hopefully you'll get over the pain hump soon...  It sounds like you're in it right now.  So, I guess the good new is that it probably won't get worse.

I hope you're taking it easy on yourself and not overdoing. I know you're superman, but many of us would be doubling up on the Vicodin by now and hiding under the covers. Ok, *I* would be doing this. ;)

Please go easy on yourself and don't try to do too much. Yeah, it's a pain in the neck (back, front, shoulders, neck, chest, and everywhere else), but you need to take it easy!!!!!!!!!

And thanks for sharing what's happening. I thought you'd been kind of quiet lately. I think it helps us all to evaluate our safety, and make sure we're doing the best we can to protect our bodies (and I know you're very safety conscious!). I always hope that someone who doesn't wear as much gear as they can adds a bit more after reading how much damage can be done even WITH all the proper gear.  :(

Rant any ol' time. Take good care of you. Let your wife and baby take good care of you.

I broke some ribs in college...hurt like a b*tch for 3 weeks solid.  Then I thought it has healed and went out to play basketball...I set a pick and the impact made me feel like I had been stabbed with a very large knife.

heal up and enjoy  the vicodin.

Yeah man that sucks.  long term pain is ultra shitty, esp when nothing helps.  Take it easy and relax, its hard to do but it will pay off in the end.  Get better man

blazinjr-yeah, like childbirth. more like repeated stabbing in the back with a long knife...childbirth might beat it.

pandy-doing the best that I can under the circumstances. definitely trying to sleep more but not always successful. and its not easy to take it easy with a 3 yr old and a mother who doesnt like motorcycles in the first place...know what I mean?

raylarrabee-yeah, another friend of mine broke a few ribs at the track a while ago too and he said pretty much 3 months for full healing without significant pain.

everyone else-thanks for the words...I'll keep at it.

I had a broken collarbone, it really sucks.  It's a deep down pain.  I can't imagine the broken ribs.   :(

I'll twist the throttle a little extra for you, even though, my wildest riding probably doesn't compare to you tamest time on the track.

Get well soon!!!

Heal well and get back in the saddle. Been there with the broken collar bone. More of an inconvienence than anything. Don't have a broken rib in my collection but did fracture my sternum before. Drugs helped a lot, like oxy. I almost got addicted to pain killers after a crash in '00.
Common sense in not very common.
