What about The Big Labowsky?  That movie was awsome!  What about Boonedock Saints?  What about Snatch?  What about Office Space?

I think you people Buddha Loves You about movies just to hear your head rattle.  There are tons of great movies out there.

You don't like movies?  Well don't watch them for pete's sake!

I'm with ya Jake.  Also a big fan of anything Christopher Guest and I liked Match Point along with about a million other movies.

I have a lot of respect for the old time movies.. my favorite movie of all time is M directed by Fritz Lang scariest movie I've ever seen. Battleship Potemkin, Ran, and Entr'acte are some of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. New movies, I'm a sucker for Jane Campion I leave every one of her movies dumb struck for hours. And..despite Michael Moores controversial topics and down right dip shaZam! propaganda hes a good film maker. From a cinematic stand point he does everything a film maker is supposed to. The opening scene from Farenheit 9-11 is one of my favorite openings along with Cote d'azur. I liked Skins, and Sin City too.

How about the opening 5 minutes of "Faster".  John Hopkins testing the bike, coming at the camera straight on, Ewin McGregor saying, "Always fast-ah.  An fast-ah.  An Fast-ah."

I've got chicken skin just thinking about it.

ok gotta add das experiment..awesome flick...made in germany...can't wait to see 300...

the more I think about X3 the more I don't like it...and I'm sooooooooooo glad I didn't go see king kong at the theatres.  Jack Black can't play a serious role for shaZam!.  When he said "it was beauty killed the beast" I nearly shaZam! myself...the whole movie stank except for the 10 minutes in the middle where kong faught the rexes.

f%$king movies...

If you want to watch good movies don't fu(king watch the popular ones... they are usually always (rap..  Try out some of these:
SLC Punk, Momento, Donny Darko, Requiem for a Dream, Garden State, Fight club, Swingers, A Beautiful Mind, THX 1138, Schindler's List, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Run Lola Run, Silence of the Lambs, Punch Drunk Love, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's nest, Soylent Green, The Pianist, American History X, Sling Blade, Gattaca, Alien & Aliens (but not 3 or 4), Kill Bill (I & II), Reservoir Dogs, Shawshank Redemption, Indiana Jones, Pet Cemetery.... those are just some off the top of my head.

I worked at blockbuster part time and got 5 free rentals a week, and I always used them.  I've seen so many bad movies that are just explosions and $hity acting and primarily their the ones that are "box office hits", more like box office $hits if you ask me.

And yes I HATE BEN STILLER!!! I HATED meet the parents, duplex, zoolander, ect... and all other movies hence forth.  He seriously makes me want to break something if I even see one of his movies on my television or someone suggests to go see one of his movies.

One more thing that makes me mad is, what the hell is up with commercials before the movies???? I mean seriously... I remember when it was just previews of other movies but now its a barrage of 10-15 min of commercials.  What bs.

Yeah THX1138 and Soylent Green were Great.THX1138 is too under Rated.

SLC Punk was both odd and badass...I liked it.

The commercial things piss me the hell off...it's why I only go to UA theatres now...no commercials.  My "I can watch commercials at home" comment always get a lot of laughs, though.

They say the 70's were the golden age of cinema... This is also a golden age for TV, with a lot of great cable shows being produced (I wouldn't know, I don't have cable). However for fans, actors, and people in the industry, that makes me happy.

Did anyone see Clerks 2? I was ready to like it, but the acting was so bad I didn't finish it. The best part was when Earl from My Name Is Earl came in and was pissed off. Otherwise it was like "We're actors again! Remember how we said that line in the first movie? It was so funny!"

I wouldn't say there's no good movies. But I rarely see a film in the theaters anymore, and I often leave the video store emptyhanded because I just didn't see anything worth watching when compared to counterstrike, Go, gstwins, PBS, maybe even porn.  :icon_razz:

Some truly awesome movies:

HEAT
8 & 1/2, La Dolce Vita, and La Strada (black and white but still cool, elegant, and fresh movies by Federico Fellini, great Italian director)
The Tin Drum (crazy German movie... just watch it, it will blow your mind)
Anything by Werner Herzog, especially his documentaries
Anything with Klaus Kinski, Herzog's crazy actor friend in it... he's crazy. For example: Aguirre: The Wrath of God, My Best Fiend (documentary on their f'ed up relationship)
Top Gun
Last Of The Mohicans
The Seven Samurai (awesome old b/w film by Akira Kurosawa, inspired Magnificent Seven)
RAN (samurai epic)
Godfather I & II
Me And You And Everyone We Know (if you like art)
La Femme Nikita (original French version by Luc Besson only)

more later

OMG Nightrider we have the same taste in movies! I wrote a paper on Kurosawa for my World Cinema class! And I just made AJ watch Me and You and Everyone We Know the other day!

I would have to add Pepe Le Moko though...waaaaaaaaay better than Casablanca....and M because I'm obsessed with Fritz Lang and I love his play on silence...

Oh: top moto movies:

Dust To Glory (extreme dirtbike/all vehicle Baja 1000 race)
The Long Way Round (adventure touring)
The Doctor, The Tornado, and The Kentucky Kid (MotoGP)

On Any Sunday (older dirtbike doc with Steve McQueen)

Haven't seen Faster but will try to find that... looks good.

Nice Pastrana, I wrote down Pepe Le Moko, never heard of that one. U have good taste. Arent you the guy who sent me the fork tube end caps... ty.

Alphamazing

I have no taste in movies. I like both good and bad movies, and it is awesome. I can enjoy almost any movie, despite how crappy it may be.

Some movies I couldn't stand:
Ultraviolet
Feast
Dracula 3000
Deep Core
'05 DR-Z400SM (For Sale)
'04 GS500E (Sold)

ummm i don't think I sent you anything...plus I'm a chic lol... Definitely see Pepe Le Moko I'm a sucker for a good Japanese film noir too...

Brian its funny, cause I liked Ultraviolet....I HATED One Hour Photo (proceeded to put my foot in my mouth while bad mouthing it near a family member of the director) and The Thin Red Line. There's alot of movies I don't like...funny movies are usually included in my "hatred" category. We went to see Wild Hogs the other night...taken at face value it was decent...clearly not an amazing work of art but humorous and a good relaxing time.

The Thin Red Line is a work of art, it affected me deeply when I saw it. However in the theater there were ppl going "WTF?" and "Omg... what now". It's a stoner/spiritual war movie. I found it far more rewarding than Saving Private Ryan which came out the same year.

On the other hand Terrence Malick's latest one, the Lost World or whatever, was really slack and boring, couldn't even finish it. Not enough going on, too much abstract voice-overs with people being 'natural' out of doors.  :icon_razz: Malick has a taste for the natural world that is sorely needed though I think.

If nothing else, the cinematography in the natural setting (NZ I think) was as good as anything else I can remember.

Something I REALLY want to see is Pan's Labyrinth. That and 300, but I really want to see 300 on the IMAX, but there aren't any near me that are showing it.

I want to see 300, too.

Past movies that I think are good, and fun:
Swashbuckler
Highlander
Flower Drum Song
Moulin Rouge
Crimson Tide
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
Enemy at the Gates
Face/Off
Empire of the Sun
Equilibrium
Goodwill Hunting
Identity
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Fearless
Gattaca
Phantom of the Opera
Powder
The Rookie
Sabrina
Shogun Assassin
Hotel Rwanda (not fun, but good; serious)

One thing I find disturbing is people that get too involved in movies, and become so critical of movies that they no longer enjoy them.
The motorcycle is no longer the hobby, the skill has become the hobby.

Power does not compare to skill.  What good is power without the skill to use it?

good judgement trumps good skills every time.

ledfingers

my favorites are:
hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy
lord of war
weather man
open range
big fish
secondhand lions
american history x
a clockwork orange
sin city
brick
run lola run
eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
bullit (for the chase scene)
italian job
walk the line

those are a few, i have a decent collection.

i think of the commercials in theaters like i think of most clothing people my age wear. Why am I paying for YOUR advertising? I don't want your logo on my clothes, i'm not putting your sticker on my car, i don't want to know about your freaking friends products when i'm paying half my paycheck to take a girl to the movies. Now, you want to pay me to wear your clothes, or give me the parts, or pay me to see the movie, fine. But screw you and your marketing consultant, i'm not paying to spread your name.

I agree Scratch, sometimes I just want to sit back and enjoy a movie...even if its a crappy one...there's very few movies I just can't get through and idk why...I give most movies a chance though...I've got a collection of over 1000 dvds and am continuing to build...I get cheap thrills out of cartoons like Over The Hedge
