The Fast and the Furious
Too Fast, Too Furious
Torque
Biker Boyz
Matrix
Star Wars
...etc...you know the kind of movies I'm talking about.

I see people talk about these flicks all the time.  It seems the second I turn on the internet I'm instantly assaulted by some moron wanting to whine about how a movie made 5 years ago was lame because motec doesn't make an exhaust or how tom cruise wasn't even japanese, how could he be a samurai (one of my favorites...poofters never even watched the flick).  I typically LOVE going into thread where I know people are discussing these types of flicks for the sole purpous of making fun of the asshats that went to see them hoping for realism.  Whot kind of idiot wants to go see a movie about reincarnating dinosaurs EXPECTING to see something actually possible?  They should have their genes revoked.  It doesn't require a great deal of foresight to comprehend that, when you see some dude flying around downtown manhattan with nothing more than a cape in the preview, that there may be some unrealistic abillity involved.  I think was 4 when I realized that a towl wrapped around my neck did not give me the abillity to make it safely to the ground from the top of my house...did these guys ever gain this knowledge?

What I really don't get is that everyone I see bashing any of these flicks based on realism, is usualyl a devout fan of another.  Two chicks tae kwon bike fighting each other is hard to accept but you went to see the Matrix because you wanted to watch something you could relate to your own life?  I don't get it.  We spent 80 years making movies that were far from realistic...vampires and monsters, a shot to the hear is a flesh wound, cops know before they leave the office whether they'll be shot anytime soon and wear their vest then?  When did people stop wanting to see movies to be entertained?

Oh wait...I know when...

WHEN MOVIES STOPPED BEING ENTERTAINING

Movies have been going down-hill for a long time. You can thank the 90's mostly for this...the 90's saw some of the best movies to ever be produced...I couldn't help but to feel an impending sense of doom as I watched some...like Event Horizon: never going to be topped. That's when I started thinking about it...

Then somewhere along the way Jurassic Park's II and III were released, 6 different new releases were in the deerebrook mall's theatre starring ben stiller at the same time, 2 matrix sequals were released that proved that the original idea was definately stolen and that the wachowski brothers have the creative genious of my pee pee, American pie was hashed and hacked into stuff that just wasn't as funny...including a straight-to-dvd-soon-to-be-in-the-$5.99-bin band camp sequal?...I saw The Ring twice (The Ring and then, recently, Dark Water... :?), and the best way to make a funny flick it seems anymore is to curse a lot and cause lots of physical pain upon unsuspecting people...and lets not forgot unbelievable bad luck and misunderstanding.  Do Ben Stiller movies literally piss anyone else off?  I left Duplex actually angry.  I'd have murdered the old Buddha Loves You and danced naked around her burning corpse.  Same thing in the fockers...told the Buddha Loves You to take hike and take her f%&ked up family with her.  What kind of person wouldn't defend the people they love against anyone?  Every ben stiller flick has been more of an irritation than ANYTHING else...almost as irritating as knowing that the idiot's managed to get so much of the world to think he's funny.  How the f%$k did that happen?

Movies haven't really been great for a long time...a few good ones slip through every now and then, just not a lot. I'm just waiting to see the third spiderman, X3 (even though I know they'll eviscerate the pheonix saga), and then I'll sit idly by hoping that episodes 7, 8, and 9 are made and released by someone with creative genious.

I really liked the Bourne Identity and Bourne Supremacy. Those were fun to watch.

I find it slightly worrying that during the "Golden Age" of cinema the sets were not that brilliant, usually fairly obvious flat stages, the stunts were basic and special effects hardly existed at all. So why do people harp back to pictures of that age, just possibly because great acting, direction, and most of all brilliant scripts carried the films rather than endless chases ans explosions. :?

There are great and good films made today but you just have to look harder.  With the world-wide T.V., cable, Sat, Video & DVD market LOTS more films get made as they are a much safer financial bet now, as against in the 80s and 90s when the return relied on the cinema box office.

It's a business, so they make what sells, a lot of "Lowest common denominator" stuff. You can't blame the studios for turning out junk if it's what the buyers and distributers want. Sad perhaps but that's business.

There is good stuff out there, even from Hollywood, perhaps it takes a little more finding and remember to look outside of California occasionally there are a lot of people making films all over the planet. :thumb:

In Cricket the testicular guard, or Box, was introduced in 1874. The helmet was introduced in 1974. Is there a message??

Movies suck.  And to add insult to injury, as the quality goes down the freakin' ticket prices keep going up  :x

Except for one time, I haven't been to a theatre in years, and in the rare event that I rent one, it typically results in a case of buyers regret.

I did go to see The Great Raid with my folks back when it hit theatres.  It was a fair offering IMO.

Zoolander was funny!

I always prefer my own life to 2 hours wasted watching someone else's life; I'd rather go ride, play a game that interacts with another human being, talk to a teller instead of a machine...

Conversley, watching a movie and discussing it later with someone that has seen it may be good...

I've flushed things superior to Zoolander's finest moments.

I saw "Cars" last weekend.   Plenty of chuckles for the grown-ups in the audience!   :thumb:    But I could have done without the kiddies behind me KICKING THE SEAT.

Did like Spiderman 1, and Underworld but in general most movies that come out are really bad, substiting special effects for good acting / scripts.  And the prices togo to a theather is crazy.
Didn't like any of the new star wars movies 3 was ok, but the first two were terrible.  Think alot of that was because the movies were so over hyped that no matter how it was made it would not live up to expectioations.
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

What about The Big Labowsky?  That movie was awsome!  What about Boonedock Saints?  What about Snatch?  What about Office Space?

I think you people Buddha Loves You about movies just to hear your head rattle.  There are tons of great movies out there.

You don't like movies?  Well don't watch them for pete's sake!

+1 for boondock saint and office space

-1 for snatch

zukiGS500

snatch and lock, stock and two smoking barrels were awsome movies.

And when you guys Buddha Loves You about ticket prices, make sure you realize that its the film companies that set ticket prices, not the movie theatres.

Its true because I had a friend who worked at a theater, and was friends with the owner.  Basically, movie theaters buy the movies from the production companies, and they try and break even with the price of the ticket.

They make their real money in consession (SP)
