There's always someone there to comment on how many people they know who have died in a motorcycle accident, or how dangerous it is, and how crazy I am.  What do you say to these people??  I know what I would like to say!

Rich, we'll miss you, and never forget you. <3

Tell them how dangerous it is for people to talk crap to motorcycle riders. Inform them of how many people you have seen injured by running their mouth into your fist :)

People said I was crazy when I bought my bike...and when I went skydiving and when I drove to Canada for a cheeseburger. And a good chunk of the odd ball things that I do  :icon_razz: But you know what? I ask them what they like to do and how they enjoy their life. I ask them, are you making the best out of every moment? Are you going to have something to talk about and remember back to when you are old? That usually makes them think  :thumb:
Richard died in a motorcycle accident that was at no fault of his own.  We lost a good friend and good member of this board.  Though Rich may be gone, his legacy will live on here.

They're the same people who take no responsibility for themselves or their actions on the road.  They buy the biggest vehicle they can get their hands on with all the "safety features" they can afford.  Then they go screaming down the road with no regard for anyone else with the assumption they'll be OK.  Don't even get me started on cell phones and those utterly stupid little "navigation" displays which are so easily turned into a TV.

That's been my experience anyhow.

Yes, it's dangerous.  There are plenty of things in life which can maime or kill you.  The question is, are you willing to take responsibility for yourself?
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

i get that from almost everyone when i tell them i want a bike.

Example:  i asked a guy at work what he knew about bikes and if he had one...his answer was "f%$k that, i had a friend kill himself on one, i could never get one after that"

thats an answer that i have heard a lot

Amanda: I find that those who make comments like that are used to limiting themselves in life. I think my response would be to look a little nervous and say, " Wow, you know THAT many people who've died on motorcycles? Just how many dangerous, crazy people DO you know?" Then I'd give them one of my most innocent smiles.  :icon_mrgreen:

Tell them "More people are killed daily in cars than motorcycles."

When they reply 'Yes, but there are more cars on the street than motorcycles.'

Say "It doesn't make any difference, those people are still dead."

Did a little bit of poking around the internet and found this on car accidents:

Car Accident Statistics

On an average, there are more than 6 million car accidents on the roads of the US, annually.

More than 3 million people get injured due to car accidents, with more than 2 million of these injuries being permanent.

There are in excess of 40,000 deaths due to car accidents every year. Although this is a very high number by itself, some heart can be taken in the fact that statistics show that car accident fatalities have been witnessing a downward trend in recent years.

The majority of car accident victims are the drivers, then the passengers of the car, followed by pedestrians, and lastly cyclists.

Every 12 minutes, one person dies because of a car accident. Every 14 seconds, a car accident results in an injured victim.

For those in the age group of 1 to 30 years, the leading cause of death is due to being involved in a car accident. People, who are between 15 to 24 years, and those who are above 75 years of age, are the people who are most severely affected by car accidents.

According to the car accident statistics released by the United States Department of Transportation's (USDOT's) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were almost 43,000 deaths in 2002 because of car accidents. The car accident fatalities for the year 2003 stand at 42,643.

In 2002, there were around 6,316,000 car accidents in the US, with these causing about 2.9 million injuries. In 2003, the total number of car accidents was 6,328,000 and the resulting injuries stood at almost 3 million.

More than 25% of all car drivers were involved in car accidents in a five year period.

In more than half of all car accident fatalities, the deceased were found not to be wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. Even with seat belts being mandatory, a vast majority of people choose to disregard this safety precaution and end up losing their lives because of it.

Many car accidents are caused by people talking to other passengers while driving, and others due to drivers playing with the radio while driving. A large percentage is because of eating or drinking while driving, and 25% of car accidents are caused due to talking on the mobile phone while at the wheel of the car. These car accident statistics are sad enough on their own, the saddest part being that they could have easily been avoided had drivers been paying more attention to driving and less to other activities.

My girlfriend tells me I'm crazy because I ride. She tells me I'm really crazy for liking track days. I just smile and remind her that she likes me for it. :)

Similar.  Actually only had the conversation once...a friend of mine said I was nuts and would probably die any minute becuase of some of the things I do.  I reminded him that he also never has any stories to tell...

I've gotten the lecture from about 5 of my friends since I got my bike last year.  And I never realized it, but Pandy's right.  They are the one's who don't "live".  They work, go home, work, go home, etc...

There's only been one friend who gave me a "be careful".  He's my boss, and he's known me for 4 years now.  He knows all the dumb sh*t I've done, and he's the only one who has said that because of who I am.  Of course I'm much more careful on my bike.  I like doing dangerous things, but I like living to do them.

I do not personally know anyone who has died from a motorcycle crash. I do personally know 5 people that have been killed from automoblie crashes. I bet no one really thinks twice about jumping in their car.

If I die while riding a motorcycle, I will die one happy person.
Common sense in not very common.

i put it like this . most motorcycle accidents are cars hitting bikes .. so whos the carzy one ? the car drive if you ask me . these ppl that die cuz they where doing a wheelie at 100 miles an hour .. or deside hey lets see if i can ride this wheelie around in circles  on this 18 wheeler . (i have heard of guys doing this .. can you say pshyco? ) but  they do what they love .. when they go down and out for good they knew what they where putting them selfs at . just like the guys that join the army . and there moms and dads go crazy there son had to die for there country and there like " this is not right its not right i'm gonna go to bushes ranch and protest" one word . they choose what they did and they stuck with it and rode it out . they did what they where gonna do and you cant change it now .

Be glad for that. Not much fun when a g/f's brother was killed a car crash, it was a closed casket funeral.

That sucks dgyver.  I've only had one close friend die (suicide).  Which makes me think about all the "stuff" that's gonna happen sooner or later.  Life is full of sadness, and unfortunately, there's nothing that can change that.
