Curious Questions... help me understand my bikes former owner

Ok... I'm checking out my carbs a bunch lately (as fuel mixtures are not quite right) and I'm noticing some odd things.

I DO NOT HAVE A FUEL chicken!!!  I have the main shut off valve that is attatched to the tank... but no petcock from there....

on my carbs... the top fuel rail thing (fuel inlet... there's one on top and one on the bottom... fuel hoses attatch to them) has nothing attatched to it...

Another line is apparently blocked off and has a screw in it... my assumption is that it is a vacume line (as I've done the same thing with cars before)

Am I going to blow up...

I know this is a poor description... I'll try to get pics this weekend!

that valve on the tank IS the fuel petcock.

The top line with no hose is a breather/overflow.  No problem.

The line with a screw in it is likely to the vac operated petcock which may very well be broken.  Not a problem, either.

Yes, your bike will blow up.  Any moment.  Wear a helmet.

Judging from some of your previous posts (O-rings missing from carbs), he was a well-intentioned individual who probably shouldn't have tried to "fix" his motorcycle... welcome to the world of the "next" owner, the guy who gets to correct all the screw-ups made by the previous owners. I must admit, I've been able to find some real bargains by looking for someone else's "problem child"; you know, motorcycles like yours. The previous owner gaffed it up (unintentionally, no doubt), and you're the guy who'll persevere with it, and make it better than new...

You've still got a ways to go, but you're making progress, and learning as you go; the more you know...
