Hi all, spring is on it's way and I'm selling the GS500, I rode it everyday last summer and put 14000kms on it, I love the bike but my friend wants one to start on so hell why not get a different bike Red is key though. I am 22 male with perfect driving record but that really doesn't matter to insurance companies so here are the following approximate insurance costs:
Daytona = $3500 per year

CBR = $3500 per year

VFR = $2000-3000 per year

SV = 650: $1900/yr  1000: $? probably 2000-3000/yr

Other... I don't know you tell me. Maybe an R6?

Thanks for your help. And if you know of any good deals in the Ontario (or Quebec) or New York area let me know.

mastrind

hmm...I wonder which I chose... :icon_mrgreen:.....

....I can't tell you anything about the CBR/Daytona/VFR cause I've not ridden any of them enough to make a qualified statement.....but...I do love my SV....besides with what you save in ins. you can either mod it like crazy or pic up some really good gear....

SHAUN: It's Saturday!

PETE: No, it's not. It's funking Sunday. And I've got to go to funking work in four funking hours 'cos every other funker in my funking department is funking ill! Now can you see why I'm SO FUNKING ANGRY?

ED: Funk, yeah!

Already have good gear but the SV is up there. Thanks for the quick reply. It's good to be back  :cheers:

Personally I would choose the Daytona 600.

I've ridden a few of these. I was considering the daytona 600 before I settled on the 600rr. The daytona is WIDE. reminded me of early 90's gsxr's in how wide it is at the tank-really splays your legs out. And I thought the red was THE color to get in that bike. looks even better in person in red. really good bike but the triumph boards are full of threads about the early wear on the chain guard (the hard rubber peice on top edge of the swingarm)-those things wear out in only several thousand miles. Later 600's and 650's had different gearing to address this but it still didnt go away.   www.triumphrat.net (yeah, I'm on there too, LOL).

The VFR is a good solid bike bit its big too. much more upright, almost like the gs in that regard. Not especially good at touring nor especially good at canyon riding-and everyone resoundly denounces the vtec, including Honda if you consider how they changed how and when it kicks in...

The cbr is a good bike. very good bike and honda reliability! the only bike here I havent ridden. supposed to be much more comfortable and more upright than mine...thats a good thing.

the sv's are good solid bikes too-but everyone has one, dont they...

I'd say of those the Daytona or CBR 600RR (not F4I though).
SV's are going to be higly recommended, and SV 1000 will run you about 2300$ in insurance, I think (so far you have identical rates to myself.)

But I'd go for something a bit different and get the Daytona although it will cost a bit more than the rest, I think.

The Datona looks very nice and you don't see many so you would stand out. I think the cbr would be the sensible choice because of its proven quality and reliabilty but everyone has one.

Other than my GS I own a 91 VFR750. I love the bike. The engine is amazing - very muscular - and the sound tone it produces is intoxicating. The bike will lean as far as your nerve will allow.

I find it a very attractive bike to look at as well. Personally, I think the 800VFR look a little sterile but that's just my opinion.

Check out the Daytona 675 failing that I would go with an R6
Pilot 22.5, Mid 65 , Mains 147.5, Mixture screw 3.5 turns out

Even if the voices aren't real they have some good ideas.

....thought this would be a great place to thread-jack....just wanted to post up what can be done to an SV...this is a list of my bike stuff....I'll post up some new pics next week when I get the wheels back...

$3000 a year? Whoooeee, that's a lot. Ah well, I guess if you're deadset on a full-on sportbike, I'd say go with the F4i or the SV, depending on which engine configuration you prefer and which bike you feel most comfortale on. Both bikes have a LOT of aftermarket support and can have parts interchanged from other bikes as well.

Thruxton...  Oh wait... That wasn't one of the choices...

I still say Thruxton.   :icon_razz:

 I just got back from my friendly POLARIS dealer and he now carries HYOSUNG . I checked out the GT 650 [NAKED] the GT 650 S [ HALF  FAIRING ] and the GT 650 ST [ FULL FAIRING ] . The GT 650 was quite nice , upright riding position and feet flat on the ground just like the GS . The S and the ST seem a bit higher and the fit and finish looked ok. The full fairing on the ST makes it look like a DUCATI . It sells for about $2000.00 cheaper than a SV 650 . Something to consider anyway.

dyran

Yeah I'm thinking of buying used so I can keep the budget under $4000 so any brand new bikes are out   :cry: I think I'll be bike shopping sometime this week though and if one really catches my eye I may have to go for a new one....   :icon_mrgreen: Of the 153 views only a couple of people have opinions, help me out guys, I appreciate the comments given so far, thanks  :cheers:

The F4i is probably a better option over the CBR-RR. More comfortable ergos and better power range, from what I've heard.

The Daytona 650 was a really nice bike.  Sporty, reasonably good ergos, wind protection -- a potential all-rounder.  If it didn't carry such a premium price and the closest dealer being two hours away, I'd still have it as one of my top three.  Alas, with Triumph abandoning the I-4 and redesigning the whole bike, it's becoming less appealing.  (Love the YELLOW version.  :thumb:)

But here's another thought -- the Kawasaki ZZR600:

Gives you a lot of what the other bikes give with a little less cost, maybe even with an SV650 insurance price.   :dunno_white:

You might want to read the evaluation of the "second Tier" bikes in the Motorcycle Consumer News web site.

...one of the other main benefits to going to the SV that you won't have for the other bikes (as much) are all the forums....there are the big 3:

www.socalsvriders.com
www.svrider.com
www.sv1000.zyns.com

plus:

www.sv650.org
www.txsv.com

and all the SV sections at places like:
www.gixxer.com
www.sportbikes.net
etc....

....again...I don't know much about the other bikes you're interested in or the bikes people are recommending and whether any of them have boards dedicated to them.....I'm just showing the love that's out there for the SV allready....as well as the wealth of knowledge available online.....
