My wife's brand new '05 ran like crap from the moment I rode it away from the dealership.  I've had success tuning my Harley, so I decided to tear it apart and see wassup.

The bike was bought brand new and no other modifications have been done (ie: exhaust, a/c).  The bike was dying after about 5 minutes of continuous riding and the plugs showed a severe lean condition.

Here is what I found when I opened up the carbs:

1. 17.5 pilot jets, 60 mid jet, and a 130 main jet
2. One mixture screw set a 3 turns out and the other at 3-3/4 turns out
3. Both float bowls set at about 10mm

I replaced each jet with a size up, reset both screws to 2-1/2 turns out, and adjusted both floats to 15mm

The bike runs great now.

Moral:  You can't trust factory settings.  The half-wits at the Suzuki service dept told me that they don't adjust carbs during preinspections and that I would have to wait over a week to get the bike in.  YEAH RIGHT!!!  Like I would let them touch the bike again.  Even if it is under warranty, I can't trust them to do proper work when they didn't even notice that the bike barely ran in the first place.  What a joke.

if i was you, i'd be getting on to suzuki direct...you don't have to put up with these guys - think it's in suzuki's best interest to let them know that a shop is screwing it's bikes and customers...

had a similar problem with the shop i bought my last bike from here in Oz... was a Yamie TTR250 - they didn't setup the clutch and something that has something to do with it...  :dunno_white: ... and it seized the clutch after riding the bike for 90km's... one of my mates noticed it and reckoned it didn't have the same power as his - so back it went..

i got on the phone, screamed at yamaha that the bike shop wouldn't replace it coz it was their stuff up and didn't want to admit it.. so Yamaha Aust. made em replace it and i think the shop still hasn't bin paid for the new parts..

Also had a same run in with the GS.. picked it up from it's first ever service and it was covered in grease - all over the tank, frame, you name it - it was greasy, i complained and was told they washed the bike after the service. gave them an earfull, went upstairs to the shop manager and then complained to suzuki - for all of that, i got sent some suzuki merchandise and an apolgy letter from the bike shop..

justice served....

i might be hard - but when you let someone service/work on your bike - you expect it to be treated the same way you would yourself. i pride myself in having a clean ride..
