Depends on what needs to be done. A few things changed between the models, like the carbs, fairings, etc... but most of it is the same.

It depends on which system you're looking into.  The body is obviously changed as are the carbs and (maybe?) the electrical system.  The engine/transmission is the same except for the oil cooler on newer models.

None of the changes (even the ones made in 2001) are mentioned in the 89-02 manual.  Get a Haynes.

OK, here's the deal...

I just purchased an '04 GS500F w/ 7150mi on it and need to know what to do as far as maintenance/service go. The previous owner told me that the oil would need to be changed soon, but what else should I do? And, more importantly, HOW do I do it? Thanks for the help guys.

Oh, I got this one... My first bit of advice!! The FAQ section on the homepage has an excellent how-to.

You might have included a link or two....  (Just kidding.  :icon_rolleyes: )

If you don't have a manual, the Maintenance Info page has links to the kinds of regular maintenance that need to be performed at various intervals.  (They are straight from the manual.)

It also has a link to the How To Pages page, which has links to pages with step-by-step instructions on several procedures, including How To Change The Oil In Your GS500.
