I just recently bought a 2005 GS500F.  My friend test rode it for me.  After i got back to the house with the bike i was all excited to ride ti but at the same time a little scared.  So i decided that i'd work my way up to it and get to know the bike a bit.  Couldn't figure out why it wouldn't start.  Had the choke on, bike in neutral, clucth in, ignition on, full tank of gas and it just ran a few hours ago.  Finally i gave up and went to the manual - aww yes, the kickstand was still down.  boy did i feel like a dumb azz.

So the next couple times i put the kick stand up but when i was done i nearly dropped the bike before i got into the habbit of putting the kickstand down.  Makes things a lot better and i'm sure the bike appreciates it more with the kickstand down.
Dude - WTF????

You can start it, but not put it in gear, at least on mine.

Once i was lane splitting through traffic, and wanted to zip through a free hole to a next lane. I grabbed the throttle and somehow hit the kill switch with my thumb :). I felt squidy

Like Unnamed said, you can start it with the kickstand down but the bike has to be in neutral.  If you try to start it with the kickstand down in gear you won't get anything.

When I first got my bike I was pissed because I couldn't figure out how to start it.  AJ then taught me abut the choke.   :)

Once I forgot to "turn off" the fuel valve before removing the tank.  Needless to say, there was a lot of fuel pouring out as soon as i pulled the first hose off and I had to quickly try to shove it back on. laugh:

I was helping a friend change the fuel filters (yes, that's right, TWO) on his '88 accord. Well, we pulled the fuse for the fuel pump, and ran the car till she died, in order to remove most of the fuel from the lines. Or so I thought. I was under the back driver's side tire, pulled the fuel hose... got a faceful of gas. Mouth, eyes, skin.. you name it, I had it. Man, did THAT suck. So then I'm trying to force the new filter in, and can't get it. Finally, I just let it drain into a bucket. It drained about 1/4 gallon. I still can't figure it out.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.
