Here's an ethical question...

That's why we told noone.  Actually made it a year before anyone found out.  And we were engaged by then so it was no worries.  We're actually the second marriage to result from my department here.  Must be the water.

1. No.
2. No.

It's a bad idea...  If it doesn't work out for whatever reason, you have three choices:
    1)  Look at her every day, remembering the reason it didn't work out and knowing that she's thinking about the same thing...  And has probably told every other woman at the company about it.
    2)  Get a new job or get transfered to a different location.
    3)  Get her fired.

Then!  If it DOES work out, you have to work with your girlfriend. :icon_confused:  It seems like a good idea, but it's not.

And either way, everyone at the company will know about it and hate you, her, or both for it.

Avoid!

Would you ever ask a co-worker out?

or

Have you ever asked a co-worker out?

Sure I would...when i worked at wally-world there was this cute little mexican chick that I worked with all the time.  Had I not been been in a relationship at the time I'd have been after her...which I should have been anyway since my then girlfriend was a self-centered asshat.

I have thought about it but for the reasons that Rvertigo stated i have not.  Plus work for me is time away from that kind of thing.  If i had to be sweet to someone at work i think i would go f-in nuts.

My wife and I work in the same building, but not the same area...  It's cool sometimes...  But, most of the time it's just frustrating.  I can't grab, grope, squeeze, and molest her as I wish, since PDA are not PC. :nono: :icon_confused:

If we worked in the same department or area... Or even worse, the same group...  I think I'd go batty 'cause "Work Time" is nothing like "Quality Time."

The origional question is really much more complex if either party is a senior manager or similar, when does asking become harasment etc, probably best left alone.

Then again, what is (or are) ethics anyway? go for it.

Now that I've got two pages worth of replies...

Here's the situation...

I'm a department manager for a retail store.  She works in another department as a sales associate.  But I still KINDA have "authority".  She just left for school, but plans on being back during the winter break for a couple weeks, and possibly for next summer as well.

Go for it .. just don't hire her back :)  Let her find a job elsewhere.  Unless you want to be fired too ... probably a big no-no in the company handbook.

Managers should not ask out employees, even if they are not directly over them. Better check the company policy on that.

For the record...I am currently dating a girl at work. Our job duties are not directly related. Interesting that my boss wanted to set us up.

That should read:

"I'm WIDE OPEN to be sued for sexual her-ass-ment if any woman I look at for more than 0.01 seconds decides that she's mad at me or the company."

Dude...  Really...  DON'T DO IT!  Wait until she's gone...  Really...
