How much time and trouble would it take to take the engine out of my 05 GS500F and put a 99 honda cbr 600 F4-I engine in it. What problems mite arise from this and what would have to be reinforced. Thanx

You think that will fit? I'm down for custom projects, but that sounds like a ton of work.

Turd Ferguson

I'd check the overall dimensions before you get too many ideas.  I'd bet that it would be too large in nearly every direction.

Also, remember that it will have to be shifted very far to the right so as to get a proper chain line.

Hmmmmm............I wonder if the engine out of an f650 dakar would fit???  It looks like it might :dunno_white:

Notice how the front half of the tank area is actually part of the engine, and there are no lower frame rails.

If your Looking for something like that I would Just go Get a CBR600.It would be Possible to do it but would Probably be More trouble than it's worth.I'm doing a Two Stroke T500 Transplant into my Frame and it isn't going to work without some major Frame Modification on the Front Down Tubes just for the Exhaust to Exit. Also in Your Case your trying to fit a Wider 4 Cylinder Motor into a Narrower Framed Designed around a Twin.As Turd Say's your Going to have a Big Chunk of Case Hanging out on the Right Side.In order to be Able to get the Vertical Chain Alignment correct your looking at Possibly Picking the rear of the CBR Motor Up wards for the Chain to Clear the Swingarm.I'm Just Assuming that to get the Carburator Angle Correct you'll Also Have to pick the Front up an Equal Amount your problem will be the Cylinder Cover hitting the Frame.Don't get me Wrong I like Transplants.I know one guy thats Putting a GT750 Waterbuffalo Motor into a GSXR Frame and Another thats Putting a Kawasaki H1 into a 250 Ninjette Frame. There's a Whole lot of Measuring and Head Scratching Involved.
If it's Not Broke Modify it.

There is no way the GS frame would support that. You would have to re-enforce the frame. I dont think there is anyway it would fit in the GS even w/ extensive modding  :thumb:

no one is mentioning the HUGE problem of changing the center of gravity of the bike.  Centralized mass and all that.... with the amount of motor you'd also have to worry about left/right centering as well as fore/aft centering.

Hipocracy.... becoming more acceptable with the more power you think you have.

I've thought long and hard about this....then I stopped. You'd need to cut the upper frame and re-weld it in a weird shape. It's be different if you had a bike that started as a 4. The f650 Dakar engine would probaly work, but unless you have one laying around I think that the engine would cost almost as much as an entire used CBR. I doubt the 650 single would have that much more power anyways.

Hang out there, we may flame, but we don't hate.

My attitude is in serious need of readjustment, and I'm ok with that.

congrats on the new bike.

i seem to recall the dakar motor crankin in the mid 60's  :icon_rolleyes:  but yeah it's not exactly cost effective. I found one with 10k miles on it for $4k :icon_rolleyes:  We had a guy wreck his '07 GSXR-600 outside of work tonight. After I made sure he was ok and called an ambulance i started wondering about cannabalizing the bike   The bike was pretty beat, he seemed somewhat OK.  No head injury, his helmet was fine, but he had a shaZam! ton of road rash :o :o  He said it was his first bike and he'd had it 3 weeks and it was going to be his last

Yeah, and I admit it was stupid riding that got me there. I don't do stupid things like road race. This kid refers to himself as a racer. I'm smart enough to realize I don't need/can't ride a gixxer..
