"They are not cylinders. Min diameter is approx. 84mm, Max (not the outside lip) is approx. 87mm. Outside the metal lip is approx. 98mm."

89-02 have mechanical tachs.
04+ have electric tachs.

Electric tachs can be used on any GS. Just need to run a Positive, ground and signal wire. Connect the signal wire to the Black/Yellow wire that goes to the right coil.

hmm, Might need to check it out.  THese VDO's are sweet.  160 Speedo, 14k tach.  so cool!

I changed to electric speedo on my 97 since I used SV gauges. Used a SV speed sensor and made a bushing for it to fit the smaller axle. The SV axle is 2mm larger in diameter.

VDO makes a speed sensor kit do you think it would work? or should I just get an SV Sensor and Attach it to the VDO gauge?

I have no idea what it looks like or how it installs.

i thought that , i had a post where i was gonna keep the anolog rev . but it was interfering with it , well mines got 2 types of a rev on it, a bar , or in numbers, and it flashes at the preset, which is 10.5k . just to be sure i dont blow the engine ,. but it flashes to tell you 2 change gear., im building a very interesting gs , so it helps to have something , that it isnt ment to have if u get my drift , i cant get that into it ,. ill buy a tiny rev sumwhere ,as i cut my clocks up 2 make a mount , easy , think i might sell the old clocks, hmm dunno tho

What did you make the bushing with?  Where did you get the parts, this some how seems easier.

Thanks

I used a stock GS speedo drive, pressed out the insert and turned it down. This made it simple for me since I have a hard time turning ID's on my lathe. OD's are no problem. The insert is a powered metal and turns easily. I left a shoulder (~1.5mm) on the new bushing to make up a small difference in width. This may not be needed on a GS since I am using Kat forks, which are spaced wider. I did trash the first attempt when it got snatched out of the chuck.
