So I have this Alaskan husky...

...who loves to run.  He loves running.  He runs everywhere...hungry?  Runs to the bowl.  Happy to see you?  His feet don't seem to touch the ground.  Happy to be home?  Runs 11 miles going between the front door to you because you're obviously not moving fast enough.  Too tired to do anything?  Sprints to his bed as though he's on fire.  I don't believe that, in the year I've had him, he's walked normally anywhere. He walks if he's on a leash, but if he's flying solo and doesn't have the room to run he "tip toes" or trots so he can feel like he's running but not run into shaZam!.

Earlier the neighbor's cut their field down so the weeds and grass is all short and now my yard is fairly organized.  Between them Buddy, the husky, has lots of room to really open up...he can probably out accelerate anything from 0~30 and really gets going.  What i noticed tonight, though, is that he doesn't just run from A to B.  He zig-zags.  He finds the most mundane things to circumnavigate and he does it losing almost no speed and it's crazy to watch.  He weighs about 55lbs and stands fluffs up to about 26" at the shoulder but his feet are huge...he's got more contact patch per foot than my TL did wearing a 190.  He gets to turning around things and his whole body kicks over.  Dirt and debris kicks up from all four of those feet like he's peeling out the whole way around.  I was watching him to pull off a long, graceful sweeper a bit ago and he had such a lean angle going that I couldn't help but think if he had some knee pucks he'd had been able put one down real easy.

Moral of the story?   He may top out at 30mph but he'll kick your ass in the twisties.

We have a siberian husky that loves to jog. I don't know what's up with that, she doesn't really run much but we take her jogging with us and she can pace for miles. I figured it was the sled dog breeding, built to go a steady pace for hours, so I'm surprised your husky is more of a sprinter :) Great dogs though, except ours sheds like mad. Gotta vacuum around 4 times a week and my roomba is threatening to quit...

Mayoke

Sounds like my dog Mayoke.
He's 45 pounds and part Chow, part Shiba-inu(we think).
Funny thing is he's half the size of most 50 pound dogs.
That just means PACKED in dense muscle structure.
The vet loves him and laughs everytime I bring him in or board him when I go out of town.
I always get the same thing, "He pulls like a 120 pound dog."
He's good in the twisties too as he has two cat "brothers" that he chases around the condo.
It's funny watching the speed lap in my place.  LOL!
