I've been having problems when replying to posts. If the message is long (i.e. if I need to scroll down), the reply screen jumps around and doesn't let me view the portion that I am currently writing. I have to write the reply in Notepad and then paste it in.  :cookoo:

I recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 8. Perhaps it is a compatibility issue?

I am having this same problem.  Using IE8 as well FWIW.

where is the classic black GSTwins theme??
I noticed that after problems with the server the black theme is gone, I tried to change the default theme but the good ol' theme is not there.

Can any administrator please install that black theme again?

I got so used to it that I have difficulties reading posts in new colors...

Hello dcubed.  Check out this thread in the FAQ section: http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=15370.0

Most people use photobucket.  When you've got your avatar uploaded, find out the URL, and copy/paste it into the appropriate field in your profile.

got a gs 500 last spring. put 8k on it. rode great all year, till i dropped it rather hard. minor damage to cosmetics, and clutch lever and bike rode again. i've gotta lot of problems with the bike this year, out of storage the bike wouldnt run. had to tear the carbs down and clean them, and now if i go over 6 grand it sputters out and shuts down. still has spark. usually still has fuel. it also does this climbing hills. if i can manage to keep it full throttle it will usually continue to run but its' rough, and feels like a cylinder is kicking in and out tore it down yesterday with my motorcycle guy (dad) and found that theres a diaphram in the petcock that has deteriorated. appears to just be a fuel shut off deal. but it doesn't close all the way, so i dont think its shutting off while i'm riding. also after i get these problems solved i want to breath a little more power into this thing, as i would like to be able to get the front wheel off the ground in 2nd. thinking along the lines of jetting and air filters, if it's made a different sprocket set, things like that. don't wanna bore it out cause i don't have the money to do that. and if i did, i'd buy something fuel injected. i need to find someone who knows alot about these little things. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

I'm posting this on behalf of someone else...

They Registered for the site back in Early Sep. Searching the Members list you can find them, but not in the alphabetical list. Thing is, he cannot log in, nor has he received a Confirmation Email from Admin. I told him I found his details when I Searched, he tries to log in and gets an "ERROR. Your account is still awaiting for admin approval." message.

He uses a Hotmail Account and received nothing in the spam box.

He asked me if the Admin who Approves the registrations is Away, how long it normally takes, or if it's cause he is using Hotmail.

Can you shed any light on this please, so I can pass it on. Username = Twisted. Date 4th Sep.

Sorry to be a whiner on my first official visit to the site (I've actually been reading it for awhile but finally signed up because I'm now the proud owner of a GS500) but I've encountered two problems already. So I poked through this thread and discovered they are not new.

Quote from: Danny500 on February 27, 2009, 12:32:36 AM
Is there any way to make it so that after you post a NEW THREAD you don't go back to the FOURM index (meaning the main forum... I.E. General GS500 Discussion).

Instead, is there a way to make it so when you post a NEW THREAD and hit POST you go directly TO that thread on the most recent post (I.E. The one you just posted).

As for the first problem, I'm surprised to encounter a forum that tosses you back to the forum index after posting a reply. If this is an intentional setting I would be curious to understand why?  :dunno_black:

EDIT: Ooops, I just found the profile setting for "return to topic after posting". <blush>

To elaborate on the second one, as soon as the reply text box fills and it should scroll as you enter text, it doesn't. It displays the line you are typing on for a fraction of a second  each time you type a character and then instantly jumps back to some random display point that leaves the line you are typing on hidden way below the text box. It really makes things difficult.

Or is this a "feature" to force us to keep posts short??   :police:

Thanks for listening.

Methinks it's a "feature" related to your choice of web browser and/or OS (but probably web browser. There's at least one default option that ignores standards as a matter of course.)

Using Safari on a Mac I have not had this problem. I'm happily scrolled down in my reply as I type. Suggest you try something different - Not knowing what you are using, here are some options...

Thanks. I'll give Firefox a try, although you would think a forum should work with the browser that 70% or more of the computing population uses by default. Hate to have to use FF for just one of the many forums I follow.

Yeah. Well. I already figured that out and it's what I've been doing today. We used to do that way back in the stone age of electronic dial-up bulletin boards over twenty years ago. I just didn't expect to have to do it with a modern forum, especially when it's a problem that was already reported two years ago.

I'll learn to live with it. It just seemed reasonable to point out that the problem still exists.

Yeah, you would expect a forum to be compatible with 70% of the user base...

But I think your 70% IE number is a few years old: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

(I particularly like the quotes at the bottom of the page)

There's a famous expression that "There's lies; there's damn lies and then there's statistics."  :nono:

This still holds true when researching reporting on the browser "wars".

Yes, the fine print way down is very interesting and puts the numbers into their proper context.

"W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to use Internet Explorer, since it comes preinstalled with Windows. Most do not seek out other browsers.

These facts indicate that the browser figures above are not 100% realistic. Other web sites have statistics showing that Internet Explorer is used by at least 80% of the users."

Now let's get a broader perspective. Here's an analysis that includes the numbers from the three major browser stats reporting sites. It also includes a comment about the various versions of IE. Interesting to note that the ones who report the lowest usage for IE are only reporting IE8, not all the IE versions that are currently in use. And interesting to note their comment that if you watch the action on IE8, it's growing at least slightly, not shrinking, while FireFox has been stagnant for months. Even if IE8 only has a little over 30% market share, that's still pretty impressive when you consider it's only the most recent version. I wonder what you would get if you treated FF the same and looked at just, say, FireFox 3.x?

http://www.ghacks.net/2010/10/05/browser-statistics-october-2010/

And finally, for whatever it's worth, here's Wikipedia's report and analysis.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_web_browsers

No matter. This isn't rocket science or even especially difficult. It's a basic text entry widget. Just grab another one from  a different code library that works. Not to have made the site work with one of the major browser products after two years seems rather neglectful of a large percentage of its users.

I have a 1993 GS500E. When I apply the throttle at any speed it is sluggish, almost like there is a clog or dirty carbs. Any other things that may cause this?

This place is for FORUM problems not Bike problems. Put your bike problems in the main page - do a search first and if you cannot find your answer, post a question in a new thread.

Hi all, I went on a ride yesterday. About 60 miles all together (freeway). On my way to a bike night the bike ran fine. On the way home the bike started to lack power and when i pulled over my pipe (stock)was red hot. I have the carb adjusted by a shop about february. Is that a fuel issue.

Ionatan

Hi, just got my first gs500e and changed the oil(the bike it's a little old, and has many km, but runs just fine), but I have put a little too much, just that it covers the letter F. Do you think it's a problem?..I don't know much about bikes but I am trying to learn:-)
Thanks in advance.

Might want to go ahead and upgrade to 2.0 since it is offically out. Just ran a full conversion at my site (been running 2.0 since rc1) and has a lot of security fixes and optimizations.
