I really want to get my hands on some GSXR mirrors with the turn signals integrated. I'm sure there has to be a way of mounting them that doesn't require destroying the mirrors or fairing to fit them.  :icon_lol:

I'm also after some GSXR 2003-2004 rear signals but they are so hard to come by on ebay for some reason.  :dunno_white:

You may want to check these out :   http://www.bikebandit.com/aftermarket-parts-list?d=1170244+1173708+2212781+2212814

These are AFTERMARKET but I hope they are good, cause I just ordered myself a pair - I'll use them as my front signals. For $ 24 shipped I can take the risk  ;)

If you don't like those check ebay frequently - I saw a pair of OEM GSXR signals today in ebay stores for around 40 bucks shipped!!!!

good luck

I have ordered a set of OEM GSXR mirrors now, so I can finally satisfy my own curiosity.

I wonder if I can't find any GSXR mirrors because those online are un-willling to ship to Australia. If you can find any 2003-2004 GSXR turn signals on ebay please post a link here.

Mate that "clear alternative" link is just for the replacement clear lens right? Not the actual blinker unit.

Thanks guys. I'm blind I think.... I don't know what I was thinking about... I just cancelled the order!
I'll have to look for the GSXR turn signals again.
Thanks again for pointing the mistake!

I found some rear 2003-2004 gsxr signals from england on ebay which I have ordered. (I searched for Suzuki signal)

So fingers crossed, that I will be able to complete my GSXR front Turn Signal mirrors and GSXR rear signal mod. I'm looking forward to the challenge.  :icon_twisted:

Keep us informed! I want to know how the turn signals/mirrors combo works for you! It would indeed look good and work well!!

Will do.

i will try and bolt them on without any mods and take some photos so we can see where the actual problem lies, that prevents them from being a straight bolt on mod.

Then with the help of the board I'm sure we can work out a solution.

So I got my beautiful gsxr OEM mirrors.

First problem... if I used the standard hole in the fairing look at what angle these mirrors would be compared to the stockers.

Now the gsxr mirrors are fixed to their base. They are non adjustable at the base. They are fixed in place with a giant rivet type fastener.

You have to use and oversized drill bit to remove the rivet to pull the mirrors from their base.

I ground my mirrors base on a grinding wheel, to try and get it to fit in the GS's stock mounting bracket. They fit, but the angle was still very wrong. They would work in this position (I can see behind me), but they look silly.

I tried to do some more mods but I snapped the cast aluminium around the hole of the gsxr mirror where it screws onto the base :(

So my experiments came to a premature end and I am no closer to working out how to mount them.

Bugger!

kml.krk

oh man... this is not looking good   I have no idea what you could do to make them fit. maybe some "mod master" will chime in and give you some good advise.
good luck
hope you'll figure it out!!

Pictures being uploaded now. But I'll pipe in first letting you know, the 2003-2005 gsxr indicators are 12V 18W, and a strange wedge type bulb.

The globe is printed with W16W  (921)

Here's the Indicator

Here's the Indicators screw and wire. Note its different to the stock gs500's

Here's the Indicator disassembled. Notice the wedge type bulb.

Ok, so I got out my old fairing and got measuring and drilling.

The gsxr mirrors look good  :thumb:

Now the tough bits.... 1 visibility. The mirrors sucked when I first put them on. They just didn't view wide enough.

So... I widened my holes increasing the angle that the mirrors turn outwards. Also added a washer in between where the mirror base sits on the fairing. Problem solved.

Note: Illustration only. But gives an idea of which way you want the base of your mirrors to line up.

Ok, here is the underside of the fairing. As you can see clearance becomes an issue.
I am using the stock screws of the gsxr mirror, but I ended up needing new nuts that were smaller to fit between the screen and fairing frame. I'll give you the exact specs after I finalise on what I'm going to use.

New problem. Mirrors mounted as tight as possible, but they still vibrate too much. To the point that they suck!!! Because its only the plastic supporting them, not into the frame.

Solutions!!!

Wedge a piece of thick rubber (I initially used wood and it worded well too) in between the screw ends and the frame. And by wedge I mean wedge. As in, it takes a huge effort to gert it in there, and just as much to take it out.

BINGO!!!

Functional mirrors, good visibility behind and they don't vibrate any more than stock :)

Oh and they look good.

I just need some more screws to do the other side. But you get the idea.

I'm so glad I had a spare fairing to practice on. If all goes well, I'll have a go on my good fairing. and work out how to make it all look sweet.

Another challenge is what to do with the stock mirror mounts. You need to put something in their to hold the fairing on. I currently am just using the stock gs500f mirror screws and a few washers, but it looks daggy. I'll work that out in time.

I'm so happy I'm actually making progress, and the best news is, no mucking around destroying the gsxr mirrors and just requires drilling 6 holes. 4 mounting holes (2 each side) and 1 hole each side for the wire to pass through. Nothing else needs to be modified. And that's a good thing!!!

the gsxr mirrors use py21W bulbs, so I'm thinking of replacing them with some silver bulbs that flash amber. It will remove the egg yoke look from the indicators and make them really clear looking.

Philips have one called 'Silver Vision" and I think OSRAM Sylvania have one too called SilverStar

You can get them with free shipping from http://www.autobulbsonline.co.uk and http://www.powerbulbs.com

kml.krk

dude. that is looking SWEET!! I'm so happy for you (and fo myself ) as soon as I collect some money I'll get those mirrors and do the mod!!
great news!!
thanks for sharing
KaMeL

By the way: how much did you pay for the mirrors?? where?

$100 US for both including postage from ebay.

Got OEM ones that were taken straight from a bike before it was about to go racing.

Definitely get OEM if you can, The cheaper copies quality sucks.

I think I searched for

'suzuki gsxr oem mirror"

and variants on that combination  :thumb:

kml.krk

they are not cheap obviously, but they seem to be worth the money  :thumb:
I'll put them in a queue ;)

Here are some more photos.

(just remember the right hand side mirror (throttle side) is a little wonky as I had to glue it together after I botched up an attempt to make it use the standard GS500F mirror mounts.

I tried to take a photo to show the mirrors have good visibility. I failed in proving it but it shows they see evenly each side with a wide field of view. Probably 80% as good as the stock GS500's which are damn near the best motor bike mirrors for visibility I have even seen!

As for what's required to do this mod.

A 10mm drill bit (and a smaller one to do a pilot hole helps with accuracy)

Some 10mm washers (I used 8mm and drilled them out to 10mm for less over hang) and some 10mm spring loaded washers

4 x HEX FLANGE NUTS M6 (to hold the mirrors on from under the fairing. You can add a spring loaded washer to really tighten it up if you wish)

4 x M6 x 15mm long bolts to replace the old mirror bolts to hold the fairing on (you can use the alan key bolts from your old mirror if you want)

Some 5mm thick rubber (or something similar) to pack out the space between the new mirror screws and the fairing frame to prevent vibration.

Masking tape (mask the fairing both sides before drilling it to prevent it cracking)

A marking pen (to mark the holes before you cut (remember measure twice, cut once)

Some electrical wire to extend the turn signals wire. Also some bullet clip connectors are usefull.

Patience!!!
