I think that price is a little too high, but that is what they are charging at the local Suzuki shop in my area.

Will be looking else where.  I hope I find somewhere sheaper and not too far.  Then the gas price added evens out somehow.  <sigh>

yep its 30$ a tire here but how often do you really change the tires on a gs?

I need new dust caps for the fork seal re-build, so I guess I can do a little more research and hopefully find a better price, but if not, I guess you are right, how often do you change tires.

you could always try to change them urself? I don't know how hard it is to put the tires on but I assume if you were having trouble getting it off you could always cut it off?

Need a bead breaker.  I saw some bizarre posts here in the past of people breaking the bead by stomping on a 2x4 on top of the tire.  Not the most elegant way to do it, but hey if it works.

You would still have to take the tire in to get mounted and balanced though.

I've said it before....Dealerships are in business to make Money too ( Shocking isn't it....I mean in this capitalist world we live in...what's the world coming too ?).

Labor is labor.... to open the doors at a business it costs money before a customer  even walks in the door --- rent/equipment/ electric/telephones/ water/insurances/wages -the list goes on. You have to charge so much an Hour to cover all your expenses and then have a little left over for profit.

I guess it's the "Wal-mart" syndrome... Everyone wants the stuff they buy/pay for  to be cheap- but they want to keep making  money themselves (Hey , Me too.... I like spending less... but I'll pay for good labor on something I'm not prepared to do at home myself...).

  I do Slide my wheels/ tires into the techs at the local shop and pay them on the side to do them (off the bike- new tires in hand)...I even take my forks there  and have the seals etc done...they do  a great job--yes I can do them myself..just easier/for the money to have them done there..

  I also do work for them occasionally (upholstery on seats/repair seats for them)/ and once in awhile they've gotten  parts from me for a bike they were working on... I also am there buying parts semi- regularly..(I get a frequent flyer discount...been going there a long time..).

Yeah you can do your tires etc at home- that How to is very good (I've seen it before- specifically for the tire plugging part-Nail in my brand new tire on my ZX11 ...). Harbor freight sells a changer and a motorcycle kit for the changer- Anybody used it?? Reviews?


Curious--- How many of you guys go to work and daily  have to re-justify your pay rate for what you do ?

$70 to remove rim from bike, remove old tire, mount and balance new tire.

That is not bad, but we all want to save money, so we remove the rim and bring the new tire and rim in hand.  $40.00.

To me $40.00 is a little high.  I found a guy that will do it for $20.00.  Problem is that he can't 'computer balance' the tire.

That is okay.  I took the newly mounted tire back to the Suzuki dealership to ask for JUST A BALANCE.   $35.00.   WTF!!

I couldn't believe that.   

I went to the Kawasaki dealer and he sez he doesn't have a balance machine and that I should take it to the Yamaha dealer.  Apparently they are 'reasonable'.

The Yamaha dealer charged me $10.00, only because they were busy.  BUT, they would have charged me $27.50 to mount and balance the tire for me. 

I will go back to the Yamaha dealer for the rear tire sometime next week.

Almost finished with the bike.  Just waiting for the fork seal dustcovers to come in from BikeBandit.
